What's the best way to force a BTA to split? Can someone point me in the right direction please?

Bad water conditions will make it spilt as a last ditch attempt to survive.
If you feed alot it will split to get more food in 2 bellys.
But to be honest just enjoy the Nem and it will do what it feels like.
Ohh sharp metal does work but it's messy and if you dont know what your doing it will kill it/both!

The reason for wanting it to split.....my BTA is getting pretty big, and would like to make it split and give the bigger of the two to somone.
I'm trying the feeding trick. I've also heard to feed it a lot, then all of a sudden stop feeding it.
Any other tricks besides mutilation?

yeah, knives/razors are inhumane...you would literally take a sharpened metal instrument and slice it in half?!
much better to let it rip itself in half
feed daily for a two weeks or so, then do a 50% water change. splitsville!
post split--be extra vigilant about water quality.

Splitting it with a knife is not inhumane and is very easy to do. That's how people propagate them to sell to the industry which in turn keeps many in the reefs which is a good thing. There are several websites I can point you to to show you exactly how to do it if you are interested.

My bta split 6 times in 2 years. I noticed mine liked to split after heavy (daily) feeding for a week and then a water change. Stop feeding and then split. My tank now has too many anemones, so I only feed about once a month. So far no more splits after a year. I want to keep them when I upgrade my tank.
I have heard overfeeding will make it split, like everyone else said. As an addition, feeding then doing a massive (as in 50%) water change will also make it split. Strictly overfeeding has not worked for me, and I know that one of mine has split before, so it is of the "cloning" variety.
I don't subscribe to the inhumane thing. Allowing people who train their dogs to attack people to continue to live is inhumane. Spare the poor dog, it doesn't know any better. Kill the owner. Oh @&*%$%^ ! I am off topic. Sorry

People who know the correct way to train their dogs for protection work are not inhumane. If you know anything about protection training you would know there is nothing inhumane about the training. Now take some lowlife who abuses a puppy in efforts of making it afraid and vicious of people so that it will attack in fear and defense of its life and I agree with your statement. I just wanted to clarify the difference here ; )
I should have been more clear, and I agree exactly with what you said. Dogs used for protection work are one thing, but it is the low life I was referring to, including those who use dogs for fighting.
And to keep my post somewhat relevant to the topic: All my anemones are doing ok today.
