Formalin Baths

I gave one of my new true percs a form bath yesterday... It removed all the dead skin or film which he had. However he is still breathing heavy. Do you think that I should give a day in between baths before I go for it again?? What have you guys done in the past?

Thanks,
Bones

my clowns had some spots after 3 days in QT when I first got them. I dipped them in formalin baths for about 20- 30 minutes every other day for about 5 days (or 3 dips). After the formalin dip, I dipped them in a RO/DI water (adjusted to a pH of 8.3) with methylene blue for 5 mins before placing them back into the qt. I did water changes on the qt and vacummed the bottom. they have not had problems since then and have been enjoying life in the DT for over a year. Clowns can be very sensitive to dipping so you better watch them for severe stress and keep the water aerated.

All visable signs of Brook are gone after 2 form dips .... However there are still signs of Panting/heavy breathing.... I know that its not the water. However Is the brook still present in the QT tank and everytime I put him back inthere is he just getting worse again??

Those are some thoughts of mine...let me know guys

I'm thinking that I may go 5 days in a row....50 min form baths then a brief freshwater dip... THis would be day three...

to much stress?

thanks,
Bones

I prefer every other day or every third day depending on severity of the case.

Gill damage is a portion of the disease phase, breathing will be impacted for some time depending on the level of damage.

traveller,

Would I cause more damage if I did go everyday?

What do you think I can do to decrease the stress or help with the gill damage. The fish is just panting...then holding his breath and then panting with what sometimes looks like a hicup...
Would a 20% water change help with the gill damage?

Thanks
