Formalin dip for flukes

For purposes of temporary relief and/or diagnosis, can I perform a formalin dip for flukes instead of a freshwater dip?

I find formalin dips easier to prepare and less stressful on the fish

It should help flushing out the species that infest the gills and those who sit on the fins. But the species that infest the skin may just take shelter under the scales if on a fish with large enough scales.

I recommend giving new fish a formalin bath in any case against Brooklynella and Uronema.
The only issue I see is that you may not be able to see all the monoganean ("flukes") that may come off due to their often tiny size. Best would be to check the fallout with a microscope.

I know Newsmyrna80 has used repeated formalin baths to eradicate prazi resistant flukes. She mentions using formalin against flukes here: http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2388423

I think she did weekly formalin baths for a solid month, always followed by transfer into a sterile QT post bath. But I would double check with her to be sure that info is completely accurate.
