Hello there clown experts :D

I have a quick question.

Bought a pair of true percs and one of them has stringy stool. I treated both in a fw dip with formaline as per described on the bottle, for 30 min. yesterday.

1) How many times do i do this?

2) Do i do this every other day, or consecutive day?

thanks in advance for your input.

BTW, one w/o the stringy stool love to eat and agressivley approach food as if there would not be tomorrow. the one with stingy stool would eat, but not very enthusiastically (excuse my sp please :D )

Hmm. well, not sure about this, but Im pretty sure formilin will do nothing for stingy poop (internal parasites)

You need to either treat food with garlic (I use kents garlic extreame)
Or buy somthing to treat internal parasites. Geltek has one its an orange gel you feed your fish. I put the gel on food because they wouldent just eat the gel. you can also use maraxdol or prazaquel

TOUR is correct. The Formbaths are used as a treatment for brookynella. If you do not know what it is I can send you a few good links. The stool being as you described is a sign of illness within the clown. Best steps to reduce any chance of parsite would be as follows.
1) If the fish is eating excellent! Dose the food with 3 drops of kents garlic extreme( this helps heal from the inside out)
2) What food are you feeding the clowns? If you are feeding frozen cubes of brine or mysis, some brands do not gaurentee that their product is parasite free. Being that make sure that if u are using that food, it says it printed right on it. ( I would recomend just feeding flake food for the time being, untill the fish is healthy again. Get a cup, ad flakes, a small amount of tank water, and 3 drops of the garlic)
3)reduce lighting period of tank untill health is restored to normal

any other questions or interest in links for reading material let me know...

PS...the formulin bath could have added some stress that was not necessary...Did u rinse the fish in a bath of fresh water before placing back into the tank?? This is key because that fomulin is a nasty product and not good if it makes it to the main tank.

yep that it. It has both maraoxidol and prazaquentel (excuse spelling) lol killsw both kinds of internal parasites

the directions say to not feed your fish for 24 hours then only feed it drops of that. that dident work for me. so i soaked food in it and then gave it to him.

it worked so i guess thats fine. get yourself garlic too. its wonderful

I would aviod even using products/meds..just my way about things. I would recomend using vita-chem. I add it to the food, but it can also be added directly int othe water. It is like takin a flinstone vitamin when u were a kid..lol Read up on it, its some good stuff.

true. I used the gel tek in my qt where my juvi was for 6 weeks b4 i put him in the reef.

It usually takes a disaster to finally qt everything b4 adding it to a reef. It did me anyways lol
