Forrest's Reef Tank Build

Suppose I should have posted this here Rather then the other section. So for the catchup run over here (http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2352298).
This will be my new official one I post in. This will be a nice slow build. Got my sump built and my tank and overflows drilled and installed this last week. Since its my first tank I opted for just a basic overflow model rather then bean or herbie. I do however have an emergency overflow that I'm doing in my sump for if the power ever goes out.

Alright!! No leaking or seepage from my sump set up between the stops. And no leaking or issues on my overflows!!! Time to start on plumbing! Hope everyone had a wonderful thanksgiving!!

Woohoo! Plumbed! Now just need my return portion of pump and plumbing! Again I know this overflow isn't ideal such as a bean or herbie, however I have a safety overflow in the sump for in case of power outage. And I will have guards on my outflow to prevent clogging so that in theory should never happen.

Pics!! No not filling just testing stuff out.

Your images aren't loading, I would love to see the layout one on your other thread.

EDIT: I copy/paste the link. Nice layout. Going with a minimal rock approach?

Thanks dude! Yes I enjoy a more open scape I will probably put one more longer island in the canyon stretch to add depth to the display and a small island in front on the left. And then using that layout as the main stay pieces add another 5-8 inches on top for sps.

So as an early Xmas present (she knows how much I wanna get my tank cycling) my girlfriend told me to spend at least 175 at BRS! Originally she was just getting my pump and heaters but I opted to order 1 heater then she said just get over 175 for the free shipping. Soooo here's the list!

No idea on how long it takes to get stuff out. Never ordered from them. I have heard nothing but good things from them though.

Woohoo!! Got my package from brs today! Given they slightly messed up with my locline and gave me a section with 5 not 6 I'm not super worried about it. Gonna do testing tomorrow for water flow!! So excited its coming together!

Had fun just playing around with water stuff today and flow. Need some valves on the overflows to adjust water release. Really impressed with my pump! Getting closer to getting her up and running! 😃😃😃

Will definitely be doing solid PVC and more of a technical return. To much siphon and noise for me no way Kim would deal with it lol. Doing research as to how to do this with how my tank is drilled with an internal overflow on each side. Will probably go out to a T on each one with a stack pipe with an air intake on top to a valve to adjust water level to close to silence, down to 90's then into the sump Down about 6 inches in again with a T for an air intake on the bottom for air release/equalization. Thoughts or references as to how to do this well?

Working on the tank is always fun!

I don't see the need in the sump for the air release. Having the one at the top should be more than enough. If you add a filter sock on the input to the sump that would probably help silence the noise down there.

I will be honest with you, I have a CPR CS50 HoB overflow and it is dead silent. I just hear my return pump and skimmer going. I used threaded elbows and straight cuts to set up my sump using flex tubing.

Well since I have opposite side overflows I can't do a legit herbie set up but I can try a modified version of it. So I'll prolly just keep playing with it in the garage until I get it how I want it. I'm in no rush as I am waiting until I get my RODI unit to get it going.

Ok. So I had Kim unplug the pump for me today to see what would happen. And it flooded a bit due to the return pump line creating a siphon and sucking water down through the pump. What's the best way to fix that from happening? Do I drill a little whole right where the water level would go below and break the siphon?

Just above the "too" much line. My return jet has a hole about 1 inch above the mouth that, when my power goes off, it stops my flood and breaks the siphon.
