Fort desoto collection trip?

Not a very eventful day today, but it was nice meeting and hanging out Mike and Brandon, Good guys. Caught some filefish, pipefish, s**t loads of hermits, not to many snails today
maybe next trip will be a score.
Thanks for the xenia Brandon !! it did fall off the shell, Time to get the gel out.
Russ.

I might have gone a little overboard with hermits tonight, I decided to go to belleaire a few hours ago and left with about 17-19 hermits, on top of the 8 or so from today, so I have about 24-26 now, I guess I'll watch them for a few days. Maybe I'll change my no hermit crab rule if they don't go insane. It was definitely nice meeting you both, well Brandon again and Russ for the first time.

Are you aware of the collecting limits in Florida? Not too smart admitting you are over the limit on a public forum.

The way I read it was 24-26 hermits in one day from two different locations. So, over the 20 limit per day. Also, I figured it was unlikely that he had at least five different species to get under the species limit per day.

Well if you wanna get technical about it I collected maybe 8 at Desoto Yesterday then technically once I left Belleair it was after midnight. Doesn't matter because they're all going back anyways. They've literally already started to climb all over my coral. So hey if anyone wants some hermit crabs lol. Oh and my g/f has a SW license so I was well within the legal limits.

I don't think he meant it in a negative or rude way just trying to help you not get into any trouble. Believe it or not a few years ago these boards were trolled by ppl w. Florida f&w. they don't mess around. When I read your post the first thing I thought of was the regulations and limits.

It was not meant to be rude. Meant to be educational if you were unaware there were limits.

And, you were not within legal limits. Your gf may have been. Trust me on this one (cost me $75 in a fine)

Not sure about the legality of reintroduction of local wildlife after being in captivity. You may want to double check that one.

If the bag limit per day is 20 per person per day w/ proper license. And I collect 8 on Saturday May 11th 2013 then on May 12th 2013 collected 17-19 with two Florida shoreline saltwater licenses then how would that not be within in the legal limits? Trust me man, I've been fishing since I was 11 or 12. I've never once kept anything out of season, over bag limit, too big too small etc whether it's gags, red, snook, shark, kings, spanish mac etc. And have also dealt with FWC on numerous occasions. Okay for the sake of my conversation, my g/f and I went to Belleair earlier this morning and she collected 17-19 hermits and put them in our tank.

I believe the bag is 20'per day but only 5 or six per species. So 5 hermit, 5 nas. Etc. don't think 20 of one specie is allowed but haven't gone thru the regs. In awhile. I feel Jeff was just trying to point out a potential issue. Fwc had a hay day on this forum several yrs. ago with ppl not following the exact guidelines and would show up to advertised collections and start counting. Seems like he's just trying to lookout for people as to not get into trouble.

Best thing to do is just print the FW Regulations and keep them on your person while collecting. That way you can double check just in case. Not worth the fine IMO.
