found a better way of dip treating AEFW

okay. this method worked for me. it will still need you to take out ur sps to dipped in ur prefered med for killign the hatched AEFW, but it prevent the AEFW from hatching. the method work for me as i found most of the eggs lay at the bottom part of the sps or the rock bonded. you will need to sacrify slight portion of ur sps bottom part but they will probably heal faster when you killed all the AEFE

1. dipped ur sps in ur preferred med for 2 time
2. use acid hydrocloric 44%, mixed in plain water to about 10%
3. dip the 1CM bottom part of the sps, including the rocks in the acid for 10 minutes. DO NOT dip the whole SPS into the acid
4. flush the sps with ur tank water outside of the tank and you are now okay.

what i found, the 1CM bottom of the sps and rock will dissolve slightly in acid, including the egg masses!!! the acid will go into the holes within the rocks, also the spaces between the brances which u cannto scrap, and dissolve all the eggs. u can use a small syringe to spray acid into minor egg patches above the 1CM a few time if need to

for me, it worked, it only took me 2 time of dip and 1 acid treatment for heavily infested tank. AEFW never come back again. Although, my colony mostly mounted on removable rocks which i can dip easily. the sps suffer damaged at the dipped part, but most of if cured and regrow after 2 weeks

the previous 4 dipping with med did not killed all the AEFW due to eggs and they just come back with more. this time, they are completely gone :)

BEWARE, Acid Hydrocloric is dangerous material though. need to be handled properly.

not a bad idea.

I would think vinegar would do the same thing and be much safer to handle

It still doesnt account for any strays that may not have been on the rock(s) that may return to breed if you dont leave the system acro free after treatments

To be sure...I LIKE your extreme measure, just sayin its not necessarily truly over for good as there is a slight loophole to true system erradication

Points for creativity. As flyyyguy suggests, vinegar may be about as effective and not quite as potentially lethal.

On the other hand, if you're willing to sacrifice the bottom of the base, why not just cut the base off and be done with it?

vinegar will not be near strong enough. but this is very dangerous to do. HCL will burn holes in clothes and skin very badly. i used HCL many many times and its not something to mess with. you cannot breath it in cause your throat will close up instantly stopping any harm.if you never used any type of acid, then i would not recommend doing this at all. also dont use rubber gloves cause they are not rated for HCL handling for longer times. they break down faster in HCL and the heat of your hands. use nitrile gloves if you can find them.

That would surely do the trick but I havent heard much of AEFW laying eggs on rock only the bare bones of Acroporas. But I am sure it is possible.

why i do not want to cut the base off for my sps is because most of the sps have multiple point encrusting to different area of rock, or have a lot of branches. if i haev to cut if off, it will break into pieces.

yes again, reminder, HCL need proper handling. i handle it with a mask and gloves. all glass containers.

AEFW does lay eggs on rocks. especially the hidden area of the rocks. i once cut a rock near the bottom of the sps, and find thousands of eggs :(

but you will kill all life in the rocks using acid

if you kill all rocks at the same time and in the same bath and return to the tank, you can have NH4 problems

best regards
