Found another option for red bug tank treatments

Well one of my customers tanks came down with a case of redbugs, my initial thought was ok gotta get some sentinel or interceptor spectrum. Long story short after talking with my buddies at lfs they told me dr g's coral dip is bottled with interceptor and r/o water. They used it on their display successful and a couple of their friends used it successfully.

Well I was inclined to believe him but had to talk to dr g first. I had a nice phone convo with him and indeed he says the bottle contains the raw ingredients of interceptor, because as we know it's no longer made. Asked him about in tank treatments with his dip... He said he didn't recommend it because it kills pods and can kill inverts etc. but I already knew that and I think he's just trying to cover his butt incase someone nuked their tank.

Anyways I decided to use it, as I understood one whole bottled contains the equivalent of one large breed dog pill so it will treat 380 gals if I recall correct. I had my customer dump the whole bottle in his 265g. I did the water and carbon change the next morning. All bugs gone, corals looked great, fish were fine, both shrimp lived. We only lost one snail and two hermit crabs. I will complete two more treatments but as of now I say it's looking good as another option for those that can't get or have a hard time getting the dog medicine.

That is amazing news. I just had a battle with red bugs a few months ago and it was hell trying to find sentinel. After about a month of begging local vets I finally got some. This may be the best news for acro lovers in a long time. Thank you so much for sharing.

Yeah, I have one full interceptor tab left and about 3/4 of a crushed one I use for dips I've been hording. I'll have to track down this Dr. G's. Good info!

Ya I'm not sure how far spread his products are across the country, he's local to me but he makes all kinds of good products. He's a very good guy I've talked to him in person quite a few times

Here's the info on his site, http://www.drgsmarineaquaculture.com/coral-propagation.cfm
Ya it's a fairly new product I think . Best thing to do is call the contact number and you'll probly talk to dr g himself or leave a message and he will call back. I see foster and smith carry some products too but all the coral foods and fish foods gotta be bought at your lfs. It did say they ship ups across the nation on his site so I'm sure he can help everyone get their hands on it

Also another bonus to this stuff is it's already mixed you don't have to crush pills and mix . Not a huge deal but more convenient I thought

I used it after speaking with Dr. G myself and had excellent results. Red bugs gone. And other pests gone also. I now always dip my corals in this.

I did do a triple RO bath in 3 separate containers with fresh RO and the base rock must have absorbed some meds. Immediately after I replaced the coral my peppermints were all over the base, and have since disappeared. :-(

Yes there is certainly a risk for inverts with any redbug treatment, but they can be replaced . Sometimes it's hard to replace corals we've had for a long time

I also left him a message today about how people outside Florida can get this dip. I'll update when I get an answer

Interceptor spectrum is REALLY easy to get if you don't mind waiting for a couple weeks shipping time. Not sure how cost effect. Same with sentinel... How does this stuff compare price wise?

I know it's not that hard to get but for me this stuff was sitting at the lfs in front of me. My lfs lists it at 25 bucks a bottle... Steep I know but they over price everything , I paid less

I just thought though, this wasn't intended to be a in tank treatment it's meant to be a coral dip so when compared with other dips the price makes sense. How much is a pill of sentinel or interceptor ?

Just completed second treatment, corals look great. No deaths. 3 shrimp, crabs, and snails all made it fine. Looking good

About $10 for the large pill.
