Found Clowns Fighting

I bought two Maroon Clowns along with a Bubble tip Seabae,and put them in a hospital tank to get everyone together. After three days, and the larger (female) Clown not going near the Anenome I decided to put them in my 150 gallon reef. The male (smaller) got the Anenome (Bubble Tip Sebae) where he wanted him and then the larger female took over house keeping and kicked the male out. His fins where being bitten and today I found him dead. Is there something I could have done to prevent this? Thanks for your help. I would like to try and introduce another Maroon but I don't want the same results of course. The one that is left sure seems happy.:mad2:

Depending on the size, you may have gotten two females. Since the larger one found a host, she'll be even more aggressive to defend it. Unlike other clowns, I've seen male and female pairs where the male is a lot smaller than the female, the male is maybe half the size. If you want, you can try adding a very small clown, with the hope that the female accepts it as her mate.

It's quite natural for a Maroon female to kill a Maroon male.

The only way to do something about it is to constantly viilantly watch them and remove the male when it's badly attacked.

I heard of people who had to go through 5-6 males before the female accepted one.

Yeah I kept a breeder box / separator handy when pairing my maroon gold bands the female would practicaly almost kill the male everytime I put him in the tank. I introduced the same male 7 times spread out in a two week time frame and nothing different. So I decided to change roles I put the male in the display and the female in the breeder box instead. After having her in the box for a couple days I released her back and bam it looked like they were lovers from the start.

it's very unlikely the female kill the male for maroon once they pair up. unless the female died, no fish can lay hand on the male. the biggest different in size, the easier for the maroon to pair up.
