added my tbs package 2 months ago. haven't taken a good look @ tank in a couple of weeks. tonight i did & found a black urchin the diameter of a pencil. found a 1/2" long shrimp. looks like it might be a peppermint. & found a white cucumber the size of a finger. have no idea where something his size has been hiding for 2 months. cuke has same shape as black cuke that came w/ package. are these guys the same thing?

I had a couple of the black urchins... they grew and grew... I gave one away. Some people are afraid they will eat all the coraline algae and knock things over.... It eats the coraline but I not too fast for my 50 gallon and it has not knocked things over at all. I is now about 3-4 inches spine to spine...

that looks like a cuke to me!

Enjoy watching your urchin :-)

guess my question was confusing. wasn't asking if photo was a cuke, but was asking if black cuke that comes w/ package & this white cuke are same species. black is is suppose to be safe & non-toxic. haven't heard anything about white cukes.

All cukes eat detritis and algae. Should be safe.

My reference books list about ten species native to Fla waters and none are this light (or this pretty) .

Maybe you have discovered a new species :)

I have one of those as well. Disappeared for about 6 months, and then I spotted it in a cave my pistol shrimp digs under a rock. Now I haven't seen it for a few months...

mine came out for a half hour, crawled across the tank & disappeared. only time i've ever seen him. maybe i'll get to see him again in 6 months.
