cool looking... but it's bleached, that's why it looks "clear"

As its health returns the brown areas will turn brown and it will look like a normal frogspawn again. Very cool though imo =)

they also had 1 with 2 heads- 1 purple and 1 green

The first one might be bleached out, but i looked nothing like a regular frogspawn. Even a different skeleton.

Chrissreef, I dont think its bleached. If you have read the Aquarium book by Eric Borneman, there is a very rare species of frogspawn that has clear/transparent tentacles with white tips.

I would've definitely bought that one, looks sweet

Its not bleached. Its a walled frogspawn. I have one in my tank and its cool because it is clear with green tips. It actually looks like frog eggs hence the name frogspawn

reefmoger, have a pic of yours? sounds cool

I've never seen one stay that color in my 10 yrs - but no matter ones experience, we are all always still learning =)

Yup, those are in fact two different species that maintains that look/color. Although this particular one does look a bit bleached, these maintain that very translucent look, often with a more enhanced green/lime color. They are more difficult to find, but in my area, definitely possible. Expect to pay about 1.5-3 times the price of a "regular" frogspawn.

Negatory on the bleached frogspawn.

My friend has the same piece in his tank. He's had it over a year. Everything in his tank is doing fantastic.

His piece has grown a little, but not very much.

He has the coral under a 6 Bulb Tek Fixture. About 1/2 way up the rock structure in a 75 Gallon Bow Front Aquarium.

I have a similar forggy. It is a walled variety and in th eyear it has been in my tank, it has remained the same color with only minimal darkening of the green.

I guess we all can all agree to disagree then =)

I'd like to see one like this with growth pictures - just to prove to "me" that it's a healthy piece. A LPS coral can stay bleached/stressed for a looong time and it won't grow much... if it were healthy, it would grow at normal pace i believe.

I have a frog spawn that is translucent as well but it has MUCH more color than that one. I also agree that it is bleached to an extent...

My aquarium store had these for a while and they were neat. My buddy got one for his tank a month ago and it still looks like that. They have an interesting color.

Suppose it is bleached, how long would you guess that it will take to go back "normal". I happen to have one too with translucent arms and green dots....had for three months and no color change.

It is NOT a bleached or sick coral.

Agreed. It's not a wall or branched variety. Look closely at the skeleton. It has the same skeleton as a Scolymia or Cynaria. If you were to bleach the skeleton out, and put it next to another meat coral on a shelf. The two would look indistinguishable. I believe it's actually a hybrid of sorts. Perhaps it's a Euphyllia mimic and needs to be classified with the Scolymia genus.

It growth pattern is radial unlike most other Euphyllia, and I've only seen a handful in the last 10 years. The translucent tissue is a dead giveaway.

An LFS very near to me has had a similar one for about 10 years, and I have had the privellige to study it over a long period of time.

A few caveats to consider:

These things get massive. Their growth pattern tends to radiate out along a flat plane. They are real estate hogs.

Can't frag them, and they are susceptible to injury. They get burned or stung badly.

They are a "single polyp" coral and may have a limited lifespan. The one at the LFS here has been decline over the last two years.
