fowlr2reef?'s build

started a really indepth personal look into fowlr2reef? was lost the the ether that is the www. will save text of all future thread entries. it is no big loss. the revised will come maybe not this second. am looking to build led hood assy. 80 gallon wide acrylic reef tank. "actually has the start of a reef in it!" recommendations as to number of led's "looking@cree xp-e's royal blue" type color ratio, driver"looking@meanwell", ive done quite a bit of research into it but not as much as some. already have hood materials: oak, brackets for optics, optics, wire, connectors, heat sinks, and a few others. materials needed but will obtain locally & easily. mylar for coating inside of hood. glass to keep condensation & fish/inverts in. have soldering iron will travel. recommendations, opinions welcome. thanks in advance.
 
update... all is well tank wise. xenia polyps are open. rock that was gifted to me looks awsome. the individual that gifted the rock with the xenia on it says he don't r.c. but thanks anyway. it is really a sweet rock and it was very nice of him to gift it to me. it was aslo highly appreciated. it was a very nice gift. fowlr2reef? doesn't look for handouts but a gift from a friend is appreciated. as soon as i have some other corals in my tank i 4see some frag's coming his way. this was not asked 4 or a requirement of the gift. this will happen tho. hope everyones reef journey is going well. i myself have just gotten my feet wet. this is desirable. happy reefing 2 all. :) just heard a little pop out of my tank..... hope it was not a mantis. this occured while typing this. could be anything tho. 80 gallon tanks weigh a lot. fingers crossed. got an acrylic. if there is a mantis in rock it could make THE difference. Happy reefing.
 
xenia is fully open. for those of you that may or may not be worried for me. the fanworm looks awsome. had a small hitchhiker snail too. the rock is a small purple encrusted with coraline algea gem. will post pics soon....... just trying to draw you into my thread a little. is it working? my build thread is nothing compared to some. a budget/finanace dictated build. but the diy'ers will appreciate the end result. there is no doubt of this. not on my end anyway. happy reefing.

xenia ate good tonight. all is well. all fish and inverts healthy. kinda got more red slime than i would like but as long as i have all the other algea that i have i'm not gonna worry. the other day when i added the xenia i also added 2 astrea turbo's to go with my lone snail. so that brings cuc up to 3 astrea turbo's 3 small blue hermits. 1 red mr.crab 1 coral banded shrimp. copepods. some small worms. 1 unidentifed hitch hiker snail on rock just put in. came from well established tank. the rock came out of a tank that had sum small stars in it. may have sum now 2. don't know if it has any bristleworms in it. bristleworms dont really bother me tho. have had in the past and have had no problems whatsoever. I am really enjoying the xenia. the fanworms are nice 2. was a heck of a nice gift. highly appreciated. i could go on for hours. most of my saltwater journey has occured solo. it's nice to have someone to help out, plan to help others in future. anything that i know i will pass on. would probably take about 15 mins. lol. i could do a 15 min fast track noob lecture that would help i'm sure. do's and don'ts. may sumtime in future. i was really lucky when i started. the person i bought the tank from had a very good aquarium book that he gave me when i bought the tank with no saltwater experience at all. all fish survived me. i gave them away when i went through the big D. i also had the www as a resource. had no knowledge of forums at the time was very lucky on some of my adventures in the fowlr realm.
 
all is well on the reefing front. still tryin 2 get momma to come online with pool party adventure. she said that i could go by myself. not crazy about that idea tho...... she would possibly get idea in her brainpan on me hittin up on young women in bikini's....... just keeping interested parties updated as 2 current events. still tryin to come to pp.

also feel free to weigh in on anthing in thread. have thick skin. will not be offended. good or bad. pretty or ugly. don't matter 2 me. am quite proud of the little starter reef. sump almost completed. revisions 2 revisions almost complete. i do sound consistently inconsistent don't i. lol:hmm5:
 
lookin 2 buy some psuedo/dotty's in future recommended to add 2 tank at same time for best results. future purchase. not 2day or 2morrow. may c if interested local parties want in. may go the LFS route as well. on the fence. happy reefing. have nice somewhat local LFS. nice to have resources like that available. just bought pump. good results. as you were. carry on.
 
just caught a glimpse of my goby. after goby was put in about 3 weeks ago he was mia till now. today the 6 line wrasse is mia. prolly found a goby tunnel 2 check out i guess. all is well tank wise still have more purple algea than i would like. but have every color in the book. all shades of green,blue/green, blue, red, orange, purple, lighting even though antiquated is sufficient. xenia is doing well. pulsing like a mo fo. lol. eats well. very lively. will finish and install sump today if all goes well. just 2 HOB's at the moment. hehehe dint let yall know that till today. not r/o yet either. just highly filtered mountain water. we have very good water here if anyone local needs to get some just holler. i fully intend to r/o tho. just been gettin my ducks in a row at the moment. have had somewhat local LFS test water and he was pleased with the quality. my S.G. was way off tho. not fatal or anything it was just way off from what i was ballparking for. have an ancient sg rig that he had said he hasn't seen one in many moons. i still using, just have recalibrated my measuring points. if anyone has an aquatic museum they are starting i could trade it to them for a new one. lol. i have a very old setup that is slowly coming forward in time. wait till i post some pix of sump and flow system. i would like to think that some of yall would be impressed. i should have done some before and after shots but o well. i have mad pvc skill's. lol. back 2 it.
 
You should consider getting a Kenya Tree, Green Star Polys, and a common toadstool for your next coral additions. It's get ya going with some diversity... Looks like you have Cyano, ya might research that too.

i do have cyno. will take care of it. no sump "going in today" and no r/o. maybe next week will do the r/o thing. will snap some pix of sump before installing it in a min. thanks for your suggestions. would also like a long tenticled green torch. may not be called a tenticle but u get the idea. what is it called by the way....:spin2:?

still haven't put sump in. did clean out some cyano. intend on installing sump today. that is my intent. have a busy day ahead of me. looking into r/o and u.v as well. the water i have is carbon filtered but i need to increase the filtration. will help in getting rid of the cyano. the journey is part of the fun. baby steps. patience. my reef with be fine thanks for those who have supplied thier input. still not finished with led hood will continue. slowly but slowly. will post the promised pics eventually. time has not permitted. good luck to all the reefer's and diy'ers out there. :)

have done significant water change. still have not installed sump. intend on doing soon. all is well for fowlr2reef? the stars have come in2 alignment.... lol. thanks 2 all that have been worried about my tank. helped pickupman66 unload his tank. its a sweet rig. needs a pane replaced. its no biggie tho. he also got a piece of starfire 4 the front pane! this is gonna b sweet when he get through with it. not that's it is bad now. it was definately a nice thing 2 be gifted. i wish his family and his new tank well. him 2. he got sum real young'uns. that pickupman got a starter brood go'in. nice family. busy tho. nice house 2. real close 2 the lake. just lettin those concerned tank is well. my tank is not acrylic ive come to find out. either the individual that sold it 2 me didnt know or i got the wrong impression from him as my sump is in fact acrylic. tank was really scratched but looks great now. good luck with all your reefs.
