fowlr2reef?'s build

MAN DOWN. memo2 down. have had coral banded shrimp in the past. put what was prolly a mated pair and a arrow crab in a very well establish tank in the past. they did fine. every now and then the arrow crab would take a little off the top of the shrimp but no biggie. i was warned by my somewhat local LFS that they were all different and that i had been very lucky. the one i bought with memo1 is a voracious preditor. a very cunning hunter. the antenna simulate the anenome effect. lure the clowns. in i do like the shrimp but my girl friend love the clowns. may wanna sticky. warning may wanna sticky.

I like the 2nd to the last picture, where it looks like the blue face is barfing up a bunch of red rocks.

i never noticed that. that is kinda kewl. i had to be at work and the shipment of seeded lavarock came in. just dumped it in. dint organize or nuthin. u gave me a real good laugh on that1. thanks. once i attend a meeting & pay dues i would like to suggest a group buy of lava rock. you can get it by the truckload 4cheap from landscaping supply kinda places. seed it for prospective noobs in the hobby. also real nice for sumps and refuges. low cost alternative to bio balls or live rock. gotta have liverock inna display tho acourse, would not look right w/out it. just a thought. thanks 4 your insight. lava rock will eventually go in sump.

maybe we need to form us a local branch. lol. we do need to get together you and the other1 forget his name the one who said he was 5minutes away from u.

call me sumtime. i sent you a text a few days back so my# should be on ur phone. I apologize 2 the other1. bad with names will search your move thread and edit this in a few. some ppl's kids. rude and all. 4gitin names and such.

found thread. the other1 = josh_tn

apologies again.

You should put some GSP on the lil man head. It would look like it has hair. Lol if you need some I would be glad to give you some for free from my sea horse tank.

that'd be cool. then it'd look like a saltwater chia pet. lol. will put sum more pix up soon. been a little busy.:spin2:

I would greatly recommend that you not try to break new ground with that first item. They tend to cost a lot, possibly won't be on the market long so would be hard to replace, if one element fails the entire unit is toast. And that scheme gives little or no ability to change color.

finally got info back from vendor of lights. scary stuff. 60 lumens. par next2 nuthin. good lookin out kcress. :)

shout out to kcress. i think that i'm still gonna buy some of those array lights. this is not because i dont believe you. you do you strike me as the type of person that knows what they r talking about.

still havn't bought any, dont intend2 now. sat on the idea 4 a while. glad i did.

LEDs are a bit tricky right now and there is a lot of crap out there. :)

If you're going to do LEDs, your best bet is probably just to do AquaIlluminations or another well-respected brand.

If its too expensive, DIY it, but do it right. :)

Brandon,

What is your thoughts on the Ecoxotic light fixtures and strips? And the LED JBJ Nano tank?

ecoxotic seems kinda pricey. didn't see much in the way of spec's either. i like spec's. specially where my money is involved. jbj looks ok. dont really know what to look4 in a nano. look @ ppls nano builds 4 idea's. type nano build in search bar. it will blow up. sorry i not brandon.... lol

To be honest, I've not looked at them yet.

I think mixer911 may have some of the Ecoxotics... if that's what he showed me last week, they're nice! At least for supplementation.

Haven't seen the JBJ. I'll have to check it out.

getting ready to buy some cree royal blue xp-e's from cutter. only place i know of that has some. may bundle with some other stuff. just figured i'd ask if any1 else is intending a led purchase in the near future. reasonable pricing. even better when 50+. any takers. maybe group buy. it is all just conjecture at this point and time. reasonably priced optics as well. just holler back anytime. i'm not in a rush. have been doing led research lately. not as knowledgable as some. but i pick up stuff quick. i'm somewhat dangerous at the moment. i know enough to get myself into trouble, but i'm sure i could get out of it. lol.
have electronics background somewhat. not on a regular basis by any means. but i am like a jedi with a soldering iron. know the terminology and everthing. heat bridge. tin the iron. esd=electrostatic discharge. know that 30 watt soldering irons will not used in this venture. know what a heatsink is and heatsink compound. know what lead acid core means "do not use me" know what rosin core is and aceptable tin ratio's.... so on and so forth. the force is strong with this one. lol. anyone wanna chime in about the xp-e's? any contructive critisisim is encouraged and appreciated.

shout out to kcress! thanks for taking the time with me. it's people like you that make r.c. what it should be. thanks for taking the time with a noob. your very detailed thread has been an inspiration to me. not a__ kissing just giving credit where credit is due. not everyone answers a p.m. from a noob. kcress's thread is a valueable resource for those interested in the diy led hobby. not just reef applicable either. very informative. well done. laying it on a little thick now..... but still true.

the diy fires are burning hot. have started gathering materials. salvage operations are under way. have been paying regular visits to dumps and scrapyards. will snap some shots of the gems recovered for kcress if he's interested. it might shed some light on the method 2 my madness in respect to the diy led hood that is constantly being revised in my brainpan.

my o'l lady "she doesn't like me to call her that by the way" recently aquired a electronic test lab kit at a yard sale for me. JOY, RAPTURE, so on and so forth. will eventually start playing around with it with her 15 yr old boy and try and teach the next gen some dexters lab type stuff. should b a ball. shout out to the diy'ers out there. poke @ kcress^. :)

really want 2 go 2 the pool party sunday the 20th. really sounds like a very good crew that is going to be there. hope mamma aint got no plans. you ppl thats local 2 me...... i.e. josh_tn & pickupman66, r u planning 2 attend? still havn't met u 2. the only fishy ppl i know ive met at local LFS. that is what the group is called on my cell phone. fishy ppl.......... meant in a good way o'course. lol ;)

made the big leap last night! was gifted small rock with pulsing xenia on it. rock also has small fanworm. this is a tank milestone. this is what makes the hobby so fun. we have been chomping at the bit to go the way of the coral..... this is epic. we have also tried to exercise caution and patience along our journey. as xenia is very resilient and does not require extreme care, this is one of the reasons for this move. when saying does not require extreme care i mean it is one of the easiest to care for corals. i don't mean i will not take care of it....;) it is one of the more forgiving corals. even though my tank does not have the best of lighting, i do have coraline algea growth. this is what ive been silently screaming for.. lol. some of you may have heard my silent scream as some of you may have psychotic abilities... or is it psykik. i forget. anywho the xenia is doing fine as far as i can tell. set her up on a drip for a while before puttin her in the tank. polyps have opened and closed quite a bit. they are currently in the best lighted spot in tank with the best water movement. top right of tank above squidwards house if you refer to the images on 1st page of thread. lights went off very gradually last night and came on very gradually this morning. some polyps started to open back up. all is well at the moment. baby's are doing fine will post more data L8R. any recommendations as to how long to run a drip for future reference? a detailed walkthrough of coral entry regimen would be appreciated. as i am an extreme noob to the max any input is always appreciated. constructive critisisim is something that i thrive on. makes my polyps open up.........
