Foxface grain-like spots

My single spot foxface has some weird grain-like specks on it. Like white sand that look like they are spikes poking out from the skin. The are mostly along its lateral line. Some on black part of head.

It has been like that for at least a month and they seem to come and go...

Thoughts?

Are you sure it's not just sand? I have a wrasse and a clown that likes to stir up sand; some always gets on the other fish and stays there awhile. Of course, Ich is the other possibility. Do you QT your fish?

I have not qtd the fish I have... Don't think it is sand... They are rather persistent.

if its a sugar like grains and they come and go (they appear on different parts of the body) then it might be Ich.
