Foxface turning color?

I just added a Foxface Rabbitfish and a Kole Tang to my tank last night. When I got the Foxface home it was brown and splotchy. The guy at the fish store said that it would turn brown when it gets upset, so I didn't think anything of it. Then after I turned both the actinic and the metal halides off it turned brown and splotchy again. This morning when I turned the actinic lights on, the Foxface immediately turned brown and laid on the sand against the overflow in the back. When I came back to take a picture of it a few short moments later, it was up and swimming around again, nice and yellow. It seems to me it's an oppossum fish. It will hide whenever it sees anyone outside the tank. Same goes for the tang. It's very shy. It won't come out whenever anyone's around, but when I sneak a peek from around the corner, both the Foxface and the Tang are up and about swimming nicely.
Is this normal?

Yes, this is normal behavior for a Foxface. It took mine weeks before I could even enter the room without it darting behind the rocks.

I think that is pretty much normal behavior for Foxfaces. Mine would change colors very quickly and dramatically. It used to freak me out too when I first got him. But once he settled in he would change colors less frequently. He was a pretty nervous fish overall but very active and well behaved.

Is this to your 20G tank? If so, then I would expect more of the same for a long while. If it is not, then they should soon get over it.

I just received one last week with the tank I purchased. He does the exact same thing but a little less now that it's been a week. I think I may sell mine. He's toooooo skittish for me.

Mine was the same way if I looked into the tank he immediately shifted colors but now he eats out of me hand so its just a get harder for them to become fully social.

It has been roughly 24 hrs with the foxface, and he is swimming around more and more. Unfortunatly, I think he had a run in with one of my clownfish. I added two percs two days prior to the foxface going in. They were the first fish in the tank. The clowns had been swimming around all happy happy for the past 2 days. I fed the clowns around 5pm today, and both ate and were doing fine. The clowns had been hanging out close to the foxface since I put him in yesterday. An hour after feeding one clown was spazzing out all over the tank. 20 minutes later he was dead. Water checks out still, and I don't think there is anyway the increased bioload of the foxface addition could have caused an ammonia issue anyway. Sad.
