Foxface With Parasite?

I have a foxface which seems very healthy. Sometimes I have noticed a small white bump on its side, which seems to have come and gone. I thought it might be due to the foxface mucus coat thing. I have sometimes wondered if it might be an isopod, but I couldn't see any buglike details, and then it would be gone. Today I saw the spot on the side and had to get my reading glasses for a closer look: It has tentacle like structures coming out of the bump!
I'm thinking this might be some sort of worm, and that's a breathing apparatus? Anyone seen something like this before? Any treatment or course of action? The fish is very vigorous, fat, eats well, etc.

Foxfaces are usually pretty much bulletproof.Had a few over the years but never witnessed what you just exlained.
Is the foxface new to the tank? What variety?
Is it possible that it could be a fungus?

I know I am a real PITA with all the questions but do you have any pics. If it is anything like mine you can get some good closeup shots when they are sleeping.

No pic --yet-- and of course the object has retracted. Maybe I can get a pic tomorrow.
