Foxface

Anyone out ther have any good reviews about foxface in a reef tank???? got one in my sump now drip acclimating was told that it would be ok.How about their hardiness ????

Voracious eaters and need to be fed often.
For the first few days I would stay away from the tank while it gets comfortable...very timid fish.

I had one and thy eat every kind of nuisance algae.
they can be trained to take food from your hand and they are very personable.
but I hope you know that their top fin has poisonous spines.

Yeah, every kind but the kind i have. Red hair :( But thats a different story. My foxface has a liking for LPS, esp. open brains and elegance. He recently even nipped at my orange monti cap! Keep him well fed!!!

I really like mine, Sean T is right on they are timid, and need lots of food, I lost my first one cause it ate all my algae and I just couldnt keep it fed well enough with dried seaweed sheets. I havent had a problem yet with them nipping corals.

I had mad caulerpa problems, someone recommended one, cleaned it up and trained my tangs to keep house. I agree that they are very timid, mine still spooks if I walk up to the tank too fast. Held his own with the tangs, they didnt like him at first. Mine eats everything from nori to chaeto to flakes, a very good reef fish.

We have one too. He loves Prime Reef cubes, sucks down large chunks like spaghetti. Keep your seaweed clip full, green is the fave. My foxface is spooky and will hide, so each time I put food in, I step back away from the tank because he can see me. He has never bothered my corals.

Great fish! I've had mine in my reef for about 6 months. Loves the nori. Very shy at first, would hide whenever I came in the room. Now comes right up to my hand when I put in the nori. Wil hide if I move too fast. They are supposed to be very hardy fish.

Also a good "indicator" fish. If youre water conditions arent right, he will turn dark in color like when he is spooked or when sleeping.

Great fish we have them in every tank at our store and they haven't bothered a coral the whole time that they've been in there.

qiuck update,The newcomer is not looking so good,I drip acclimated him for 4 hours and put him in the tank after the lights went out and he immediately seemed to go in slow motion.then my smaller purple tang took over and now hes just leaning against a rock with no color at all.l

one of my first and most favorite fish. Very hardy, grows like a weed, and self sufficient if you have a healthy growth.

Mine did this off and on for the frst two weeks in quarrentine. I thought for sure he was going to kick it... But then once he got comfortable, he cheered right up and now he's been in the big tank for quite a few months and doing well.

Mine's in a 125 reef. Very cool fish. Sean is right, the are very timid, especially in the beginning. Need to be fed several times a day.

i have mine in my 72 bow and he is the king of the tank (or queen, i dont know really...) After i acclimated him and put him in the tank, he hid for a while. Every time i came in the room, he would go hide. This happened for a week, but now i have had him for a couple months and he is not timid at all. Dont worry if its colors change and get splotchy, this (i think) is just a sign of stress. It comes and goes quickly. You will probably need to feed it 2 or 3 times a day. Mine will eat any food i put in the tank...hope i helped...
