My daughter has a fluval edge - with 2 fire fish and a tiny peppermint shrimp. The firefish only come out to eat - they are always hiding in the rock. What makes tham so skiddish? When they are out, as soon as you approach the tank, they hide. Water params are good - what causes this behavior?

I have a huge purple tang that does the same thing!

It has nothing to do with the water parms either. Give them time, they will get more comfortable and come out.

Had the same problem but when he did come out it jumped out of my tank. I lost all my firefish the same way, they are jumpers.

Its so depressing, I want to take all the rock out so they can't hide all the time, but that would probably send them carpet surfing.

Should have stuck with the old reliable - clownfish. They love to be seen.

Firefish are like that. A lot of gobys are like that.
I see my yellow watchman goby about once every few months.
