What is a faster way to cure DIY frag plugs, and discs??? I have been leaving them in the tank of my toilet for a few months , but someone said maby white vinegar and only a couple of weeks. Does anyone know how long to cure them for or have you herd of something diffrent ??

Any advise or sugestions is welcome.

THX,
Nick

either in your toilet bowl or depending on how you get rid of you RO waste water, you could have it run into a bucket with them in it as it will constantly changed if you make water alot.

vinegar does not make the curing process go any faster. what you are waiting for is the chemical reaction in the cement to stop which usualy take between 3-4 weeks for the majority of the reacton to complete then it is a waiting game while you try and leach out the PH to a near nuetral number. the best way to leach the ph down is to keep a constant source or close to constant of running water threw the plugs.

sharkbait,

Try putting wet plugs into a sealed bag and put it outside. I haven't been keeping up with the MMLR thread, but the latest revelation was that the cement appears to cure quicker out of water than in water. It does need water in the air to cure so keeping the plugs moist but not submerged might work better.

Try splitting the group of plugs you have in half. Put half outside in a bag with some water to keep them moist and half in the tank. See which cure faster.

eshook,

have you tried this with small pieces. I have been reading the curing threads as well, and am planning to try this with a new batch of reef biscuits, but am not sure if you will get the same results with small pieces.

I have tried this with small and mid sized pieces, but I have yet to do a true experiment to tell the difference. Thats why I was telling sharkbait to split them. It would serve as an experiment to compare the timing.

I have a batch that has only air cured in a bag, but I got too busy and did not test them and they have been curing for about 4-5 months so results won't be useful :) Once I get settled in my new house I will start making LR again. I will try to post results when I have them.
