Frag rack rust

I've been slowly but surely losing sps over the past few months. Parameters are stable and I keep up with regular water changes (Every other week).

I just figured I was facing some of the same symptoms that other people had posted on the forum with unexpected SPS loss during the summer months.

Tonight I found this:

Sorry for the image blur, but I couldn't get the AF to work on my iphone for some reason.

What those pictures very poorly show is the interior magnet from my frag rack. It began to rust at some time, but I didn't notice it until I went to move the frag rack off my back wall. I don't know how long it has been rusting for.

My questions are:

-Anything I can do other than WC and adding carbon?
-Has anyone else had this issue where a magnet or anything has rusted inside their tank and caused SPS loss?

Thanks.

I had screws on internal pump rust but never lost anything because of it. Sucks but good u found it.

Yeah I'm relieved I found it, I'm hoping that removing the rusted magnet will allow some of my SPS to bounce back.

zip-ties & eggCrate best things I have found

I originally used this method, but bought these frag racks for a good price from a vendor suggested in this forum. They seemed to be made of good quality components, but I suppose salt water has a way of changing that.

Check this out. I removed mine because of this thread.

Thanks for the heads up nitr8. I'm going to go ahead and look into some of those other threads and see what the results were.

I have been losing some sps in the last few months I thought it was low alk or temp swings ...but after reading these post I'm starting to look in my sump and the four screws on my mag 9.5 and the mag5 are rusted and the hose clamps on my skimmer are rusted .....I can change the hose clamps to PVC zip ties but what should I do about the mag drive pump screws?

To clean it up you can try running a poly filter on the tank. That might help remove the metals.
