Frag Rack

I'm looking for a nice frag rack for my new frag tank. Something that would fill a good portion of a 3 x 2 ft area - acrylic with holes for SPS frag plugs - maybe even multi tiered.

I think my egg crate rack looks terrible and is too hard to keep clean.

Anyone know a good source - online or local?

I'd suggest going to Lowes depot and buying a sheet of acrylic then drilling holes here u want them. For that size will be way cheaper I'd think

The flat acrylic will be covered with coraline. And you will find that detritus gets trapped between the plugs. Egg crate allows for more circulation.

If you're looking for something custom, contact an LFS that is closest to you and ask them to get you a quote from ART.....Dave does quality work on everything he does.

Present them with a drawing of what you're wanting that they can pass on to him....

Search ebay for frag racks and you will find plenty of different sizes of acrylic racks. Some will even do custom sizes if you check the comments.

Larger snails won't keep the egg crate clean and it will have to be removed and manually cleaned over time unless you have lots of smaller snails that will keep it clean. I don't have any problems with detritus on my plexi racks.

I'd rather deal with this:

Corals and more normally has some pretty cool ones rather cheap. They are the plexi type so you will get coraline and detritus as mentioned.

Someone was selling a 108 hole frag rack on the selling forums here. Might wanna check into that.

These a fantastic frag racks. They are new to the market and well worth it!

The Magnetic Frag Racks are 15" (width) x 5" (depth). They are made from 1/4" cast acrylic and uses 1/2" THICK N52 Magnets with 30 slightly over-sized half inch frag plug holes.

If you have glass aquariums over 3/8" thick this is the rack. These things could probably easily hold BRICKS!!! I personally got sick of dropping frags/racks every time I moved my racks with mini colonies on them.

You can thank me later, but these are legit! I can't speak highly enough of the manufacturer. focalpointdsn sells them on Ebay.

Sounds like a plug. Aka you sell them. If you read the thread he doesn't need a magnetic rack.

I don't sell them or make any money. Sorry if it sounded that way. I was just telling people about them as a fellow hobbyist. Zero profits here.

Thanks for the info. As it turns out, my black acrylic sheet and rod showed up today so I'm going to give the DIY frag rack a try. I'm throwing in the towel on the egg crate.

Are there any good LFS in Orlando? I travel down there every couple weeks - heading down towards Sebring. Plenty of opportunity to check out the local stores.

Going to make acrylic frag rack this weekend.

Any particular type of drill bit that is recommended? I guess the holes should be 1/2"? I'll be using a hand drill.

Also have some 1/2" acrylic rod for the legs. What type of solvent is best to attach them to the sheet and any local place to get it?

Be careful when drilling acrylic, a standard drill bit will want to crack the acrylic as it breaks through. They make drill bits for drilling acrylic that have a different angle for that. The best and easiest solution to drill acrylic is a hole saw drill bit or forstner bit. Weld-On #4 is typically what you want as the adhesive.

Weld on 4 takes longer to set than 3. Both are like water. if you need some thicker stuff there's 16.

you can use 4 gulag bits but you have to take your time with the thinner acrylic like the kind used for frag racks.
