frag racks

I did switch back to polyester casting resin.
I have a couple that are now 1-1/2 years old and no problems.

Hey mfinn thanks for the plans - I'm trying to imitate what you did and I'm wondering what those white circle like things that look like plaster are which are inside the mold?

Those are the 1" x 3/8" neodymium magnets. They are chrome colored and in that picture, the light reflects off them giving them a white color.

been using them for 2 years with no perceivable difference- I think they would last forever- the stuff seems totally inert in water.

I actually picked up a couple of these, from Martin (Mfinn) several year ago, probably 4 years... while visiting him. They've been in a tank since and are working wonderfully!

Haven't thought about this thread in a while. lol
4+ years and still doing fine.

I think it's safe to say that the polyester resin will last a long time in saltwater.:)

I couldn't find the pictures I had that showed how to make these. If anyone wants to try I can pm them detailed instructions.

I recently made a rack out of sheet acrylic. I drilled through holes in a piece thicker than my magnets, then glued 2 thin sheets onto that piece (second piece after inserting magnets). That magnet block then to my rack. Worked out great i think, i kept it all clear so i can see my shiny magnets too. I'll try to get some pictures of it if i can.

You should start a thread about them. :)

Are these the 1" x 3/8" neodymium magnets? Any idea if they would be strong enough for frags on back wall of 240?

When I made my frag racks, I used the 1" x 3/8" neodymium magnets on the inside ( encased in polyester resin ) and 1" x 1/4" epoxy coated neodymium magnets on the outside.
2 sets of these magnets spread across a 12" wide frag rack had enough holding power through 1/2" thick glass, to hold several pounds.
So one set for a single frag, my guess would be more than enough.
