Frag Swap Flier

Not really sure of anything is wrong here Bill. Just like renting shelf space in a grocery store or a gas station to sell something. At the Cincinnati frag swap everyone paid to get in and everyone paid for a table. A better solution here might be to charge everyone and do away with the fees for the club. If we were to do something like that then there would be no need for the fees. It has been talked about doing away with the fees for 2011 might be something that we put a poll up for but we would need to have at least the majority of the members to make that decision. In reality i am not sure who has the power to implement that decision. Does any of that sound fair Bill? Just a thought.

thats a good idea though you would need to crunch the numbers as far as the income that would provide vs charging member fees like now

 Not having a door fee may help to bring in the curious and soon to be newbs that we can sell our zenia and old equipment to to help finance our bigger and better tanks!!! :jester:

Well that's a matter of what you call wrong. If the Club members pay for the swap (Which we do) shouldn't the members reap the benefits of putting the swap on as goal number 1 Or are we just looking to give the public a free pass at a club paid event? It is the same every year the bank acct is there it seems to benefit others first and the members keep paying for it. This Idea that the money somehow is for everything but to directly give back to the club members. If Dues is going to be charged along with members having to pay the same as non members What's the point of being a member ??? I for one want this to change to a system of money collected a certain % must be directed back into the membership every year as the benefits of being a member, Then the balance can be used to put on events such as the swap and other things the members want. But this guarding and hoarding club money like it belongs to someone else is wrong IMO. Lets take care of members first then all the rest can still be done if it's affordable to do so, It's not that i don't want others to not have to pay but our own must come first.
The goal of the club was never to have a large bank acct that does nothing for it's members with their money as far as i am aware it was to be used for their benefit.
And all this can be done by a member VOTE to change the current way things are done, After swap money is put aside a Zero balance every year would force the board to replace equipment and buy new things Heck they could even pay for lunch once in a while at a meeting.
This is my opinion, And I'm sure there will be lots of others but I say club members first.

I like the idea of a certain % of the money being directly set aside for club members and the balance being used for the swap and events. I am looking for ways to reduce or eliminate the fees Bill. That was why I also suggested charging everyone for the swap and eliminating the fees. If we charged everyone there is some possiblitiy of that. Not sure what you mean by the money benifiting others before members but you have my number and we can discuss off line anything you would like to know about where and hiw the finances of the club have been used.

By others I mean the general public getting things for free while we as members pay for other things, That could and should be covered by cover charges IMO

We had many thousand in the club bank accounts. How many club members will actually sell? 10, maybe 15? Probably less, and most will split a table. You are looking at 100-250 max, which I think is worth letting go for the benefit of the members.

I think that if we are considering dropping the fees in 2011 then we are really left with no choice but to charge for tables. 150-200 will go a long way when the fee money is not there to do things with. Just my thoughts here.

Thanks Chuck, Nice to see another member understand what i was getting at by my comments. Building a bank account was not the original goal of the club. If there is money avaiable it should be used to benefit members as they see fit, Not as a war chest of some kind just hoarding cash for no good reason.
That's all i have to say about that:bounce3::bounce2::bounce3:

Same here. that's why I'm pushing to lower dues. And part of the reason why this will be free entry to the swap. And also to have more people hobbyist to show up. More hobbyist = more vendors = more corals to pick from more fun. lol.

IN the long run, as we build our swap reputation, once we get to 1000's attendees, we can start to try and get MACNA to area. Wouldnt that be cool! that takes money and was part of the reason for the surplusses.

GT, Historically we ahve always done a "no trading" untill the doors open unless you have something pre arranged. that said, it happens alot of folks claiming some pieces especially between exhibitors. I will venture to say if you are helping out before it starts, you will be able to stake your claim on some nice pretties
