This was my first year getting up there to see the place and as a trader.
To anybody that can make this show next year, I would highly recommend it. We got up there Thursday evening and checked into the Holiday Inn Express. My buddy and I were sitting in the lobby around 8:30, and Julian Sprung and Sonjay walked in to check in.
They decided to come over and chat with me and my buddy over free pitchers of beer provided by the hotel until almost 1 a.m.!
Friday we set up our tanks and took our tours. The 300,000 sq. ft. warehouse is a must see! It's enormous and very efficient.
The aquaculture facility is absolutely top notch, along with the accompanying tanks in everyone's offices. The place has thousands of corals! I saw some of the nicest fish and best acan lords I've ever seen. Huge colonies. And I saw a lot of new fish I never even knew about.
I haven't even mentioned the actual swap yet, or the raffles, or live and silent auctions, or the speakers!
The swap was fantastic. A really good selection of nicely priced corals.
They have the most helpful and friendliest staff you will ever run across. And plenty of them. Current donated the seventy Aquapod 24 gallon tanks along with their swivel, flourescent pendants. Thank you very much to Current USA also, as we all got to take them home as well.
The staff made it so easy to sell frags. The tanks are provided. They haul around large tanks of saltwater and fill RC buckets for you as your water goes down. All free. You don't even have to tie the bags of the corals you sell! Just send them down to the staff and they fill customer's bags with oxygen and clip them shut for you. Which made it very easy.
Then my buddy won a Mystery Wrasse in a silent auction for 80.00. It is a beautiful fish. Then Sunday, with 5 tickets I managed to win a new Ice Cap 660 ballast.
Not to mention the 100+ large Pizza Hut pizzas provided Friday night, the breakfasts, lunch on Saturday and banquet dinner on Saturday which was very good. All provided in your sign up for 60.00!!
Scott Michael gave an excellent and very entertaining presentation at the banquet, which was right in the hotel we were staying.
DFS really went all out for us here and I really appreciate it. We already booked for next year and plan on making the trip annually.
I also intend to switch more of my business over to DFS in the future, in appreciation for this great facility and all the great people that work there.
Thanks a lot and see you guys next year!
