Frag swap

I went to the frag swap in Cleveland a while back which was really great. Maybe a little on the cramped side but I thought the selection available was pretty good and the whole thing was well organized. Has there ever been one in Pittsburgh? Any plans for PMASI to organize an event?

There was one before my time in Pittsburgh that I understand didnt go to well since it fell in the summer on a sunny day.

We have tossed around the idea many times recently and having as many good swaps around us in the time frames they are we would have to have it in the summer or January and the summer is never a hit from talking to the vendors and previous swaps and january is just snow snow and more snow.

Its not out of the question, but its not looking in our favor since cleveland and columbus throw pretty good swaps and have for many years

There was a lot of interest here when I suggested a mini-swap in Pittsburgh with just members and no vendors, but we were never able to work out the details. I think if we actually dedicate some time to setting it up, it would be a blast.

We do have the PMASI picnic coming up in june as a possible option. I would have to make sure its ok but that would be a good start

Organization has always been the issue in the past. There are people interested, but no definitive efforts toward actually formalizing the swap. The mega raffle and frag workshops for the club in Dec. and January have been pretty nice events in the past with a lot of very nice stuff available. I guess the drawback is that you can't be sure you'll get what you want.

Two points to make. The picnic_also_a_fragswap has been discussed several times, but has been voted down because the event is designed as a club family event where the club springs for food and such. We don't fancy feeding 300 people that show up to swap corals or worse having to police who is there for what purpose.

As for the last Pittsburgh swap, it was well organized by the club with several vendors and many people SAYING they were coming and bringing frags. And then 4 people showed up. It was a ton of effort with no gain at all. Since then just about every year a handful of club folks will speak up about having a fragswap and are told "feel free to organize it and tell the club how we can support the effort" and that is as far as it goes. There is a very big difference between wanting the club to organize a frag swap [for you] and stepping up to organize one [yourselves].

As always, if any of the club members want to organize something like this they need only speak with the board to tell us what you need from us. As long as your planning is more than "how about you set up a fragswap" we'll be happy to assist.
