A thought on 11-4: That makes an awful early morning for those of us that want to commute in from Des Moines/Ames/Boone or further. I guess I could come the night before and have dinner at Thunder Bay. :0)

I was just thinking we could start letting people in at 11 and have the bidding end much later on in the afternoon. Don't worry there will be plenty of time for you to bid on stuff.

This sounds fun. Plus I'll finally join GIRS been reluctant just because my work schedule never allows me to attend anything. I do have a couple questions though since I've never been to a frag auction. Will minimum prices be set on frags? Do people just number there corals that are up for bid? Do people sell some stuff like at a reg frag swap with the good stuff being put up for auction? Basically how does it work?
Thanks Ben

I too think we used to do 50:50 to make for easy math... If you guys want 25% like was brought up before I think that would be fine. Might bring out a little more action. Makes the trip a little better for out of staters also. If anyone from out of state is reading this, remember we all have each other's corals so what ever you bring will be a hot item because it is new to the area. Just leave your red bugs and nudis at home... THAT GOES FOR EVERYONE!!!!!!!! :D :P

I thought we decided on 20%, I had that list of rule written out then my boy deleted it so I lost have of it when I rewrote it. I would also like input about what to do about our out of state guests, should we charge just the 10 dollars, just the 20%, I've posted on a few other forums trying to get some new stock, and I've got a few comments about said items. J

Actually I believe it was said that there would be no % taken, rather an entrance fee for everyone involved. That doesn't sound like a good idea if we're inviting rockford, in fact it seems kind of rude to invite people there and charge them just to get in. I think the 20% sounds just fine.

As for the out-of-state sellers, I'm under the impression that we as a club are out to increase membership within the state and participation from out of state. I think it would be a courtesy for us to charge just the 20%, as I feel they're already going out of their way just to make the swap. I'm a kiss-***, though, and that's just my opinion.

I think anyone that sells should get by with the 20% sur-charge most will easily cover their $10. Let the experiance draw the new members and not try to force them to join if they want to sell. Just a thought, but it seems the rest of you are thinking this way also.

I think that would be a good idea. At this point, we need to work on more participation rather than trying to earn extra money for the club.

I would argue that there should be some tangible benefits to being a members. Maybe 20% for members, 25% for non-members (or maybe 20%/15%).

This rewards people for becoming club members but at the same time isn't too much of a penalty for non-members.

Is it me or does everyone always want argue about this BS every time we have an event....

I haven't seen arguing or BS yet. Just do the 20 or 25% flat and call it a day. The key is to KEEP IT SIMPLE STUPID (aka the KISS theory). Have the board pick a number out of the hat either 20 or 25% done...
