Frag Tank Fish

Hi All,

I've got a 48x24x12 frag tank and I was looking for a fish that would eat algae primarily. Any suggestions?

Thanks, I'll take a look at the rock blenny (I'd been considering a lawnmower). Any specific reason for the Tomini over any Tang?

Bristletooth tangs like Kole and Tonini are known to be hard workers at picking algae...they will keep your tank cleaner than most other tangs.

They also stay smaller which would be a benefit in that size tank.

My Kole tang never touches the rock. It is always at the glass or feeding clip. Other tangs are always nipping at the rock. My Kole was tiny when I bought him . He is just now at the size I would consider too big for your tank.

FWIW my LFS has a single yellow tang in each frag tank.

Thanks all, I'm concerned about any Tang since it's only a 60 gallon tank and only 4 feet.

I really want something I won't have to move as it gets bigger.

Exactly why I don't have one in my standard 60 gallon and have a flameback angel instead...but it does nip at my finger leather coral. If you get a dwarf angel it might do more harm than good.

Yeah I'd be concerned since the tank is primarily SPS.

Tomini tang, they stay small and will take care of any algae. Never seen one in the home aquaria over 5" mouth to tail

Most of the Ctenochaetus sp. tangs stay small. I use one each in my three (3) 40G frag tanks.

Bristletooth tang or one-spot foxface. The tang will stay smaller and the foxface is venomous; however the tang will "kiss" the rock to get algae and the foxface will practially chew the rock to get the algae off.

Go with a foxface or bristletooth tang of some sort. The foxface might be easier to get your hands but grows a bit larger. Also would recommend a wrasse for pod control.

My one spot foxface is close to 8" and I would not suggest one for a 4ft tank
