Fraggin LE Neon Green Toadstool

I've decided to frag this guy up - but I have NO experience fragging leathers. Based on my growth and friends' growth of standard toadies - these grow slow. I've had it for a year and the crown is probably 4" across.

Anyway, if I enlist a friend to frag it, is there anything to know that's any different than standard toadies? One my my friends said to cut the head off entirely and slice up the cap!!! That scares me on such an expensive coral.

Any advice?

Thanks!

David

Really?
I had one (pink) that went from 3in across to 12in across in 8 months. I think that they tend to do better under PCs than MH.
Also, my tank wasn't SPS pristine. Maybe the nutrients in the water helps.

Yeah the pink and other colors grow very fast. Too fast almost! The neon green ones tend to grow much slower.

Has anyone fragged the Tyree LE or other neon greens?

cut mine with the scissors.

Awesome - thanks! Did you lop the head off like the video Jefathome linked from GARF? Also do you just take a rubber band and put it right over the top of the Toad? I see a stick in the middle frag and several bands on the other frags.

Fliger, Are you planning on selling some of you frags? I would like to buy it from you and how much?

I'll probably keep it local for the time being but I know there are a few folks on So Cal that could probably sell you a piece. Just do a search in this forum for "neon green toadstool" or post up on the SC forum. Maybe tray cambarr also, I know he has it but not sure if he sells them.

But they are EXTREMELY cool. Reefers and non-reefers see it first in my tank, and I have a lot of nice corals in there.

a local here cut the crown off his tyree and then split it into sections. This one is almost a year old and they are very slow growers.

Yeah very slow is right. Over the last few months though he has developed a butt crack  and it looks like he'll split. Also about 1/3 up the stalk he's developed a tiny head. I'm gonna go ahead and cut the head off, I think I can get 4-5 frags. I'll post pix when I do it.

It is so beautiful, that and the Duncans get the most attention from reefers and non-reefers alike.

Likekly what you are seeing on the atachment strategy is a toothpick through the stalk or some part of the cutting that is rubber banded down to the spacer rock. Like using a rubber band over te frag, you don;t want to get it too tight. My green polyped sarco doesn't expand as much as other sarcos I've had/have, so it may not be as big an issue here, but I've split other sarco's in half by rubberbanding them, only to have them expand tissue and rip themselves in half. Another method would be to put the frags in a bowl in the tan with crushed coral to allow them to attache. Then just glue to a spacer. I have cut other sarcos by lopping the entire head off with no ill effects, but I started to just cut around the edge of the cap in the later days (less scary;)). HTH.

Well I cut the head off! Got 7 frags out of it and they're all doing ok a week later. I used some fishing line and attached them to discs, they don't seem to mind. Here is a pic from 6+ months ago and I'd had him for a long time back then. He ended up being about 5" and absolutely stunning. The stalk and little baby head beneath the main head that I cut off are all doing ok.

I heard that they grow pretty slow when they are still small (5" and under). When it gets to 6", it grows a lot faster. Not sure if this is true. I guess I have to find out myself :D.

Here is mine.

Very nice Elite. My 7 frags are all doing great! Polyps are all out so I'm guessing they are out of the woods.

LOL, yeah they're cool. I don't think you'll fine one at your LFS though - at least not a true neon one. :)

can you post up pics as they devolop please i think it would really help us in the future
i have a few questions:
1. how large are the frags you cut?
2. did you use superglue or other methods such as tooth pick, rubber band ect?
3. how long after you cut them did the polips start to come out?
4. can we have a pick of the stalk?
5. has it shed its skin recently? how many days/weeks ago?

thanks
