I have some silvertip xenias that I think could be fragged. I was wondering If someone could show me how its done, Ive been readin up on it, I just never done it before and would like to see someone perform it or instruct me. Which ever. my place or your place.

I already have it on two rubble pieces and I think a thrid is start to come about the stalk. If you look at my other thread about my tank being redone, its the one with the tang right next to it. The first livestock picture

Thanks.

I don't have anything to be fraged yet but would also like to see this done. I'm sure its not that hard because everyone seems to do it..
:)

Xenia is one of the easiest thing to frag. Simply take a razor and cut at the stalk. There are several ways of attaching the new stalk to a piece of rock. 1) use a toothpick and stab the thing into place. 2) lightly rubberband the stalk to a rock. 3) sandwich the stalk between two pieces of rock.

Should I leave a litle bit at the base I have a xenia that has a main stalk and then another big stalk growing off of the main.... so cut at the side or leave a little room ?

if you look at your xenia like a tree that is about to be trimmed.... lol

the xenia I think you are talking about has a main "trunk" and then "branches" off from that like a tree. Just take a razor blade and cut one of the branches from the "trunk". then you can take the branch and mount it by one of the methods that Minh mentioned.

occasionally MARS does frag demonstrations. I've seen one done before a frag swap and they are a great way to learn about fragging and mounting all sorts of corals. If MARS has another one soon make sure you attend. Besides learning alot they are really fun, Rich breaking out the power tools and Pam slinging water all over the floor in Round Table Pizza is not to be missed

Check out the GARF site. They have step by step photos for propagation. Click on propagation on the left of the page and then click on the 1st Xenia listed.

http://www.garf.org

They will also walk you through propagation of any coral on the phone if you get stuck.
