Frags anyone?

Good luck on the new house. All the frags I bought last month are doing fine. Everyone will be happy with theirs. I would suggest 24 inch wide vs. 18. My 95 gal is 24 wide and there are so many more options with the additional width. Your reef can be 18 - 20" wide and still have a sand bed. Your tang will probably enjoy the extra space too.

Hello guys, here's a list of who wants what so far (in order):
Patrick - dragon eyes (pick up at next meeting)
Art - pink (I'll bring them over on sunday)
Phu - pink/purpley acro / DE (maybe Angela can take them for us, or possibly Donny?)
Gary - RRGS zoas / pink zoas / purply pink acro (same delivery options as Phu)
Donny - spaghetti leather and some zoas (beginning of next week)
Malcolm - EMGS zoas / DE zoas / RRGS zoas / possibly YP if I can cut some (pick up sunday, what about 5pm? otherwise just PM me with a time)
Scott - DE or RRGS zoas (pick up anytime after friday, would sunday at 5 work for you too?)
Zack - pink zoas
Ok so here's what I will do, tonight I'll start cutting all these zoas (I already cut the acro) and I will just have to see how many frags of each one I can make. Some of the zoas are kinda small colonies so I may not be able to get everyone a frag of those but I will go in order of the list above to be fair. If you don't get one now, I will start a list and I will Pm you later to see if you want it.
About our house...we close on May 15th, so we can move in that day and we are in our current house until June1. SO that gives me two weeks or so to get all this worked out. I have moved in town several times with my tank, but it was never this big (I moved a 55g three times). But I am hoping to have the other one setup and ready when I need to move it, so hopefully things will go ok with that. But I am not exactly sure how that is going to go yet since I am trying to keep my existing tank and use it as a sump (it has a nice footprint in comparison to the size of whichever tank I get).
I definitely think the 24" width is the way to go. I am really leaning toward the 8' tank as well but the issue is all the other stuff I gotta buy. I need two more lights and alot more rock, plus other stuff, if I get the 8' tank, whereas if I stick with only slightly wider I can still use allt he equipment I have...pretty much. When I bought my chiller I got it waaaay oversized, so that will work for either tank (yah for me thinking ahead) AND I have been accumulating some stuff for a bigger tank for a while...like an extra GenX Mac4 and a another pump that might work as a return pump for my sump.
Anyways...we can talk about that later!
I also have a bunch of galaxia if anyone wants that too. I want to clear out my stock of that so if you want it...now is the time to get it.

I am sick at home and have time on my hands thus I am reading RC. Here is a suggestion if you go 8 ft. Set up 6' of it and leave an open sand area on the last 2'. Sort of if you are looking down the edge of the reef and the sand bed is the beginning of the ocean face. If you find that you do not like this over time then just finish the last 2' of wall. Are you going to buy more LR etc. or buy base rock and hide it all?

Well honestly, I have not really worked this out fully even in my own head much less logistically. Everyone knows I have this horrible red bubble algae and basically that means that I am thinking of getting rid of my live rock and buying new. But there's the who issue with...who knows what I'll get in on new rock and the BIG expense. I will probably just get some new rock and do something like dry mine out or scrub it really hard or something. NO idea yet.
I do like the idea of having a section that is open because there are certain sand-loving LPS that I really like (e.g. tongue corals). That's something to think about.

The whole tank moving into a larger tank will be pretty stressful, too. I had my 125 set up for over a month before I moved the 55 into it... I was scared of the move (but I've moved over 20 tanks in the past from as far as five hours away-the bigger tank move still scared me...).
I had a problem with green bubble algae (valonia) in the 55 before moving it. In the process of moving, I put everything in rubbermid tubs for a week or so and before moving the rock into the tank, I scrubbed it thoroughly with a toothbrush and dipped/swished it in a rubbermaid tub with water I was planning on dumping. I didn;t have an issue with it after that. fishdoc did somethign similar with his tank still set up and had prety good results. Good luck with the move. If I happen to be around when it happens, I'd love to lend a helping hand.
An option on rock is that waynesworld is about to place another large order for the hirocks (I think it was hirocks, anyway). I'm sure he'll have tons (almost not a lie
) left over. It works well as base rock, though it seems to cover in algae quickly (as most unpopulated things that go into aquariums do).
Phu is coming through town at some point, I believe. I need to get with him to see if he can pick my stuff up, too. I'll let you know what I find out.

I have actually thought of just tossing out the rock I have, but realistically I won't. Thanks for telling me about you and Chris's experiences because I think that now I will just keep it. I look forward to getting a better skimmer / having larger water volume so maybe my nutrients will go down to the point that any little bits that are left won't grow.
As far as being scared to move the tank. I'm not scared at all really. My primary concern is my fish and getting them acclimated and everything. Other than that...there are a couple of corals that I want to make sure are ok (like the giant bubble and Joe's old pink Pocillopora) but other than that...honestly if they died off...it wouldn't be that big of a deal. In addition, since I frag all my stuff and put it into other people's tanks I can always get a frag of it back, ya know?

2. Red and pink zoas (some mixed with these neat green centered ones)
3. Bali green slimer is begging to be fragged (otherwise I may just have to cut it and toss it out)
4. Grey-blue palythoa polyps
5. brown with blue tips staghorn-type of coral (I'm not really sure what this is but it's got thinner branches than a normal staghorn but it grows long thick branches that reach out, sometimes reaching for the sky.)
The tips are a lot bluer than they seem here.

Mel, the frag you got for me is fine. I won't be able to pick it up tomorrow because I have two little boys in a baseball tournament and both will probably be in the final games tomorrow. Anytime after work Monday-Thursday (~5:40pm) or all day Friday or Saturday (next week) would work. Barring that, I'll see you at the meeting.
BTW, did you mention a price for the frags or are you just taking donations?

I wanted to go ahead and get those cut because every time I mount them on rocks the polyps get damaged a little. It's totally fine, but I just would like to give it a bit to heal. Green slimer on the other hand...indestructible.

are there any corals that
1 dont HAVE to have alot of light(if i put it on top of lr that is within 3-5" from the surface of the water with reg lights, or a 130w pc 48"it will be ok)
2. that there is a chance triggers would not have an immediately have a field day on?
but mainlythe first on,because i have a 29g qt tank with a couple of baby false percs that unbenounced to my fiance' will probably end up a coral tank. right nowi just dont have enough light.

Mel, I think you and I both got a pc of Gary's blue tipped stag during the frag swap last year (not the recent one). Of course mine has hardly grown but my blue tips run about 1" and the next 2-3" is blueish brown (under 400w). Seems it's a light loving sps but other than blue tip I cant help with a name.
Since you seem to have many folks coming by tomorrow I might swing by to help you thin it out some more. Keep me in mind for some high light loving stuff. fyi, your evelmel zoos have survived my lights/tank and are doing great whereas all other zoas have melted.
