How long exactly will these frags be able to stay in the bags after we leave the meeting. If i don't leave the meeting until 5 will they be okay until 8?
i think what i'm gonna do is bring this 3 gallon pico tank i have & one of the heaters & a tiny pump for my new build. i've got alot of scrap eggcrate, so tonite i'll prob make some shelves to sit stuff on in it. either that or i still need to get a small 5 or 10 gallon tank for a nurse tank for my new build, so i might bring that......
i'll sit it out of the way (prob in our club area) so if somebody gets something early & wants to put it in there till they leave, they are more than welcome
I personally would leave it all bagged James, Some things tend to slime out pretty bad and emit nasty self defence stuff I guess. If you just dump it all in a tank with no filter like carbon it may be more stressful, not to mention acclimating to that tanks params mixed with everyones water to your other tank at homes water and different params. Just my opinion though .
It also depends on what you buy, softies & most LPS are much more tolerant of a bag with no light, circulation than SPS. Zoas and stuff are often shipped 2-3 day snail mail with no problems. Overnight is even OK on most things, including SPS. A few hours till you get home is totally fine. You can even stop and eat supper as long as you have them in a cooler, hot car, heat pack kinda thing. The frags getting real cold is what hurts them the most, be sure and float them before dumping them and lets all not forget to DIP our new stuff .
I'd say heat is your number one enemy. Most frags, if healthy to start with, will easily survive the bag for a day as long as they stay within a good temperature range.
okay so i read the link. Do i need to bring a small tank to the swap since i am going to be there all day long also. If anyone here is going to have a place tha i can float bags please let me know. Thanks
You can easily keep frags bagged all day in a cooler, no need to float in a tank. You might need a small heat pack but something to watch out for depending on the size of the cooler is it getting too hot. Most frags will actually make it fine a couple of days(48 hours) in bags. Almost all will make it a day (24 hours) easily.
