Fragswap Help/Ideas.

I plan on setting up a table at the fragswap, but I am not signing up as a vendor. I plan on setting up a 20 gallon tank, and I am trying to figure out the best way to transport water to keep it warm and ready, and I will be taking frags from different tanks, so do I need to acclimate them? Will there be enough time to set them up so the corals will open up? I am going to pre-package the sold items, but I don't want to package every coral in separate containers that have not sold yet. Should I just put them in a bucket in egg crate with some water? I am afraid it will get too cold. Tips? Suggestions?
Thanks!

Jeff, everyone gets in at 12, buyers and hobbyist sellers alike. Only the vendors will get in early. I am setting up a 10 gallon, and most of my frags are from the same system, so what I'm planning on doing is mixing up about 12 gallons of saltwater the day before to do a water change on my larger system that most of the corals are coming from. The water I take from the tank, I'm going to put in a bucket with a powerhead and heater keeping it at around 82-84F. I'm hoping it won't be too much of a drastic change by the time I get up there.
Also, all the corals I'm taking up, I'm just putting in Gladware containers together (zoas with zoas, leather with leather, etc). The corals will already be used to that water chemistry, and should open right up. I pretty much know everything everyone's getting from me, so I'll be able to pick them out of my frag tank when they show up, just make sure to print out your check list from fragswapper...

Also, on a somewhat related note, did you get my email from FragSwapper about 4 hours ago? I sent out a mass email to everyone I'm dealing with up there, but I don't know if the emails I send from there work or not. Let me know...

this will be my first swap and i was thinking the same thing i was mainly concerned with the stuff im going to buy, i didnt want it to sit around for a couple of hours in a bag. My plan was to bring a 20 gal a t5 light, air, heat. powerstrip. suggestions please.

I'm leaving all my frags in the gfs containers. Not going to set up a tank to sell out of as most of my stuff sold on swapper. If your setting up a tank for 4 hours I would make sure to have flow and a heater.

Remember bring cords and electrical splitters
Erik

I went out and bought a 10 gallon tank ($10) and a small heater ($15) for this swap. I've already got a small powerhead that I'm taking up with me... Good tip on the extension cords and splitters!

If you have a cooler, I suggest putting your water in that. I have a cooler that can hold about 3g that seems to keep the temp at around 80 with little change in 3-4 hours. That's how I have been holding my frags at work when I need to ship to anyone or receive a shipment. I would imagine a bigger cooler filled with water in the 80 degree range would also hold its temp for a long time.

not selling at the swap but was thinking about the time that everything im buying will be sitting in my truck while at the swap and for the ride home and was pondering about the idea of hooking a small heater to the power inverter in my truck just to keep a cooler with water warm and just set the containers or bags of items in the water. was just an idea i had. might help for some of you people who have really long car rides or bringing delicate items

That's pretty much my plan also. I rewired a small inverter to use a cig lighter plug for power. I'll just put a bucket in a styro cooler (surrounded by towels to keep it from moving around. I figure I'll run a small powerhead and heater. It should be fine for the hour or so I plan to be there.

The best way to store corals under cool conditions is to use a cooler with 1 or 2 of the chemical pack hand warmers. I've brought corals from a considerable distance in subzero temps that way.

Keep in mind, overheated will do far more damage to a coral than a few hours in cooler temps.

Absolutely plus 1.
warm water in your truck with special inverter is just a bad idea. Lets be safe at the swap guys :)

My best advice, take a picture of your coral at home opened and pretty.....print....cut it our and tape it to the container.

POWER WILL BE LIMITED AT THE HOBBYIST TABLES!!!

The arrangement of the room is such that too many cables will create really bad trip hazards, and we don't want one person's cord to knock over another guy's(or gal's) whole table.

Please be aware and plan accordingly.

It has been brought to my attention that the email facility at FragSwapper.com is not sending out personal emails. We have determined that the error is caused by the site's attempt to put YOUR email address as the FROM portion of the email to allow people to easily use the REPLY button of their email program to respond. This is a recent issue that we will need to work with our host to resolve.

Until a permanent fix is found all outbound emails will now user a generic email address as the FROM. This is the same address used when automated emails go out like request correspondence. If your message requires return correspondence from the receiver you will need to include your email address in the message or the user will need to go to the website and use the email facility to respond. If they use REPLY the email will go to the empty abyss of invalid emails. :)

Also, do not use double-quotes in your email body it will most likely fail. We have turned off 'error trapping' in the email process so if ANYTHING goes wrong you will see a message on your screen that probably won't make sense to you, but makes sense to me! :) Let me know if you get one!

Thank you for using the site. If you have any questions feel free to email me directly.

Update....looks like I will NEVER be able to use YOUR email address as the "FROM". The comes from my host directly.

So I guess I'll leave it as is for now until I figure out what to do.
