FRANKENSTEINED! Lavender shroom/ frogspawn

Can someone explain this to me. I have a rock with 7 or 8 large lavender mushrooms. A couple weeks ago my frogspawn branch falls on top of one of the mushrooms. The mushroom had the typical stinging reactions and I did not notice for a couple days. I moved the frogspawn back and let the mushroom heal. A month later, the mushroom is growing frogspawn tentacles. I thought maybe the frogspawn just spawned next to it but it is one solid mushroom. FROGSPAWN MUSHROOM? (warning high res iphone 4 pics)

Your rhodactis mushrooms are developing acrospheres on their tentacles as a defense against the frogspawn they know is right above them. The acrospheres are the white tips on the mushrooms where large numbers of stinging cells have developed.

I'd like to see more pictures, this is very interesting. I've actually not heard of shrooms doing this, is it common?
