Frank's LPS Grow Out Contest Update #1

I've adjusted the fan and it's at more of a normal rate. My evap does seem to increase at night vs day consumption.
Alk was at 150ppm this evening without dosing anything. Not touching it tonight.

Do you keep the house colder at night? The ac will suck moisture out of the air so you will have a faster evaporation rate.

I luckily don't have that kind of evaporation at night. We have a unit on each side of the house. The one side we keep at 68-70 at night and the unit on the barroom side we keep at 78 at night.

Had an alk of 149 last night. I dosed 1ml of fusion part 1 and 2.

Skimmer is really starting to do its thing. I've begun feeding a little heavier and I have not had any algae on my glass in a big.

Also, introduced a purple fire fish to the tank. Wife's request. He's a live. Well. And eating.

Pics will be up tomorrow.

Did a check today. At 4:30 my alk was 146ppm. So I decided to dose 1ml of fusion part 1 & 2. Apparently, it's quite strong and I over shot a bit. I'm not sure this stuff should be that potent but my alk was 153ppm at 8:30pm.

I did turn my sump light off after testing where my cheato is. Would this effect the alk like that? I'm assuming that I just simply dosed 2x what I should have to get back to the 149ppm from the day before. Tomorrow, as long as I have a similar 3ppm drop, I will dose a half and half.

Also, got some frags in from a fellow reefer from Texas.

Ok. So tested alk last night and I got a 144ppm. This is after adding about 8 sps frags to the tank. So I double checked the Hanna and ran it again and came up with a 147. Either way, bigger drop than expected. So I continued on my path and dosed only a 1/2ml of fusion 1 & 2. Will test again tonight of course.
I'm just not sure about such a huge increment of alk upswing for only 1ml in my system. 1ml took me from 146-153 a few days ago.
Will monitor again today. If I see another huge drop in alk today I will continue with the 1ml dose. Otherwise the 1/2 will continue.

Anyone else have experience with fusion 2 part?

If you have any problems with those frags I have a coral rehab program I can give you info on. Good luck.

As far as adding those frags, if you are thinking it will affect your consumption, think again. They need to settle. Try to get into a rhythm with your checker. Make sure you do it the same every time. Make sure the water level is exactly the same, as in the meniscus is right on the line. If you are off by a little, it will throw your value off.

Nice frags by the way. Looks like your friend from Texas has a lot of Battle Corals. Grow them out and we can trade;)

FWIW, my alk is always between 143-147, usually 145-146. Yesterday it was 141 so I upped my dosing a tad and started adding manually. Its been about 4-6 weeks since I've had to adjust my dosers. This happens SLOWLY. Keep up the good fight!

I'm using your advice. I don't believe that they consumed anything. But I'm using these posts to clarify with the professionals.

The corals are doing great. They usually are until I get them. I'll be biding my time. I'm just curious as to whether the small dose is effecting the alk so much.

The good news is, I haven't killed a coral in a small stint.

Also, I contemplated having him ship the corals direct to your door step. Lol

Frank's LPS Grow Out Contest Update #1

Came home tonight to a 147ppm alk. Continued to dose 1/2ml part 1 and 2 of reef fusion.

I did move my frag rack on tuesday to the opposite side of the tank at approximately the same height. Came home today to find a tip of my joe the coral white and a small amount of recession on the base of one side.

Going to turn my lights down from 55 to 45 as well for a few weeks.

I know I just need to keep steady and things should go fine but the condition of the joe the coral definitely made me anxious tonight. So, I just did my testing, fed the fish, dosed and left the room. Going to ignore the tank today and tomorrow aside from testing.

Question: I have a hammer coral being stung by a few aiptasia. Do these release toxins? Could this be causing stn? I've had the coral since pbmas frag swap. Two heads.

That's great that your alk seems stable but you continue to change stuff lol. Each time you change something no matter how minor you set yourself back a few weeks. Just saying.....:wildone:

So, I'm thinking my issue has a tie in with phosphates. So I'm ordering a better test kit and my water changes will commence.

I've done a couple 10% water changes the last few days. Each day, my polyp extension seems amazing right after.

I'm wondering, does this point towards phos being the problem? I, also, found a rusting screw in my sand bed last night. Not sure of what to think about it but it was plenty rusted. Could this be killing my sps?

I changed my top off pump today. For whatever reason, my aqualifter was incapable of doing its job. I replaced it with a small submersible pump with clear tubing. I need to reset the flood timer on my ato sensor when I get home.

How the heck did a screw get in there? As far as it affecting anything, it depends on what the screw was made of. I've seen discussions on the chemistry boards on this very topic. Might be worth a search, and maybe run some polyfilter as a "just in case" measure.
