Franky's Macro Shots

Last one for now, tried a side shot of the tank just to give you guys a different view and try and catch a few pieces in one frame. kind of hard to compose a shot though without getting the pumps and the cables in the shot, oh well!!!



maybe next time i'll clean the glass a little better too lol, it gives you an idea of the size of the colony of my red digi and the strawberry shortcake in the distance and my Hawkins and a little piece of my nuclear green candy cane and a little nub of my purple monster
 
franky do you shoot in aperature priority? if so, what f-stop? do you find your shutter speed slowing down and requiring a tripod? if so, how do you use the tripod to shoot beyond a few inches inwards of the tank over the rest of the tank? great photos, thanks!
 
I shoot in manual that way I can control both the shutter speed and the aperture. I shoot everything tripod mounted my hands shake way too much for handheld shooting lol. I tend to use an F stop of 8 or larger most of the time I'm at f11 or f16. Otherwise I lose too much focus. At f16 and higher I lose a lot of light so I bump my iso up to 640 or 800 or so. That way I can keep my shutter speed up. For SPS shutter speed is not that much of an issue like when shooting LPS or fish. Hope that helps

yes it does. i'll give full manual a go as well.

with the tripod, how are you taking photos over the tank beyond the first six inches of the front to back of your tank? that is if you need to take a photo in the middle how is a tripod used or is there some kind of extension or something i need to buy or can use? or do i set up a plank over the top of the tank and use a mini tripod? can you take a photo of your rig/setup while taking photos?
 
That hammer shot is sweet, I was wondering how that thing was doing. What happened to the Rastas? Thought u had a bunch?
 
Few more, trying to get really close so that you can really see the detail and the textures on some of the corals that only macro can do. I think I'm gonna have to buy some extension tubes though still can't get get as close as i would like especially true on the chalices. I would like to get a super zoom of the individual eye/mouth.

I like the fat little nub on this plate kind of like hell boy with the one big arm LOL!
