Free 10 gallon--Sump or QT?

My girlfriends mom gave me a 10 gallon aga. I have a 35g reef tank going strong (35g hex--Green Acropora, Birds nest, Branching hammer coral, zoas under a 250w mh--all growing FAAAAST) but it has no sump. I have it on the AGA stand that I got from a guy on Craigslist, so there is room for about a 5 gallon aquarium underneath and not much more--any sump I would get would have to go outside the tank (not a big deal to me).

The problem is that the clowns that I have in there both have ich. It's a bad situation because the bigger clown--2 years old--was just given/loaned to me by a buddy of mine and I will feel like an a hole if I kill it. I also have a Diamond Goby and 6 line in there and they are both fine and healthy.

My question is would you set up the 35g with an external overflow and sump or would you make a 10 gallon quarantine/hospital tank for your sick fish? Luckily, I have an extra powerhead and the light that came on the hex fits perfectly on the 10 gallon so the QT tank is a quick option, but I want to the reef to thrive...

Do both...10g tank for your sump is only 10 bucks at walmart. If it's one or the other, I'd cure the fish first, do the sump later.

Good idea. I'll probably do the quarantine tank forst. Or just buy all my fish from CPE. From some reason, the fish from there have never ever gotten sick on me.

They do a little prophylactic medication on the fish that come in wild. St. Louis raised captive bred clownfish are the exception, since they are already clean from the git go.

Definately, QT all new stuff especially this time of year, I would, even from CPE. There's a lot of bad stuff going around. It's not worth risking your display tank.

FWIW,
Kathy

I am definitely doing the qt. Probably setting it up tonight or tomorrow. I don't want to kill anything. It puts me in a bad mood when that happens.
