Free freshwater fish

I have an Osphronemus goramy I'll give away free to anyone who wants it.
It's a really cool looking fish. It's about 16 inches long. It will need at least a 125 g. tank - really, a much larger tank is preferred.
It was in a customer's 180, but, allegedly, patients were complaining that the Osphronemus was "mean" to the other fish. None of the other fish (large African cichlids) have so much as a nipped fin. I'm kinda ticked off about taking him out of that tank - he was doing great.
Just google "Osphronemus goramy" if you don't know what this is. There's lots of info on the web.

I remember that fish!
but do you remember it fondly :D

Slightly off topic Terry your tank at Kingsbrook is very nice for freshwater. ;)

Thanks, Amy.

I forgot - that fish once bit Matt when we were working on the tank. Just an accident, though - nobody was hurt.

In a large tank, 150 and up, I think the Osphronemus would do well with big cichlids. Its really just the anabantid version of a Heros cichlid, but without all the digging.

Hmmm, might have to consider that one. Going to be around Charleston anytime that we could meet up?

He would be going in this tank for the time being. At least until I get the 400 or 500 gallon tank I am planning.

He would love that tank. What size is it? - I know it's big 'cause I had those same fish.
Because of his size, you'd have to pick him up. You need a Rubbermaid container or something.

It's a 210 gallon tank. I'm not real sure when I can make it to Huntington so if anyone else wants to take you up on it go for it. My schedule isn't real forgiving right now. :(

Awwww, poor fish. Maybe we can do a rescue for it, like the shark, only give someone gas money and money for their time and get this fish to you. I will pitch in $10, anyone else, and will someone do it?

Don't take up collection, we can work something out.
I go to Charleston every other week. Where there's a will, there's a way.

I'm not trying to be difficult and it's definitely not the money for the gas that is stopping me. It's working a full time job, having a family business, remodelling and selling a home (my father-in-laws in parkersburg that recently passed away) as well as working on purchasing a new home for myself that is stopping me. I'll do my best to come up with some free time in the near future though, I just can't make any promises. :(

I do think the fish would be happy in the tank, especially the future tank. At it's size it should be able to handle anything that the other fish throw at it.

Okay, picked up the little fishy this evening. I had a little free time after going to Parkersburg so I headed that way. The fish is in the tank and swimming around. I'll get some pictures of it a little later.

Oh, and just so everyone knows, The fish took care of today's shower for me, as well as tomorrow's and the next days as well! My entire room is freaking soaked!!!

Okay, was able to get a couple of pictures. They aren't the best in the world but you will get the idea. I'm not real sure how big he is but he sure isn't small.

This one isn't real accurate. I think it's kinda cool though.

The wife and I are so glad this fish now has a home.
I seldom get attached to a fish - I try to think of them as "livestock." But Osphronemus are unique in both appearance and behavior. Imagine! A gourami larger than most cichlids! And their attitude is so much better than the average cichlid - even though Osphronemus have bigger teeth (!)
I came very close to setting up a 150 at my shop just to house this dude.
Thanks, LowCel, for coming all the way to Huntington to get this guy.
BTW, carb850, this fish you called an "old dude" is barely a teenager.
