My family recently acquired a full blood Pembroke Welsh Corgi. His name is Cowboy. Unfortunately, his previous neglect has left him very defensive, scared, and rather inappropriate for living with a family with children. With proper constant, deligent training in a one on one environment, he will be an ideal pet. It's too bad that he is not currently family-friendly. I can make a long story about his attitude and activities, but I'll do that for those that are interested. He is free to a good home under these circumstances only:
---Must live with a single person or couple. No Children! Single female prefered.
---New owner must be willing to devote an enormous amount of special, postive-reinforced training.
---Must not have dogs smaller or same size as a full grown Corgi. Any dogs currently at home must be larger and calm/passive, but willing to show their status.
---Cats are situational only. We have no experience with him and cats together, but I would doubt that drastic reactions from Cowboy to a cat will occur.
---Owner needs strong prior experience with dog training and must know how to read body language. This is for the owners safety.
---No negative-reinforced training should be used or risk further scarring.
Cowboy is a really good dog that wants to have a family, but does not have the appropriate training. He does well with children provided they are old enough to give him LOTS of room and be very calm and gentle with him. New owner must know that he is aggressively defensive when he is scared and will bite if pushed far enough. Here is a little more information about Cowboy:
---Knows a variety of commands. Due to neglect, he is reluctant to follow commands out of fear. Special training needed.
---Full blood, unregistered and unpapered
---Male, not neutered
---No current shot record, but I'm sure he has been vaccinated
---Has slight seperation anxiety. Until he gets used to a routine of people coming and going, he'll bark a lot until he gets settled in the new home. Does not chew up stuff.
---Leash trained, but needs better training.
---Active and playful. Loves dog toys.
---Will need flea maintenance with a strict preventive system.
We're really upset that Cowboy didn't work out with our family, but after he bit Kylie in the arm, that was the last straw. She had been nipped three times on the fingers, but Kylie aggitated it and was her fault.
Cowboy will need to be picked up from Stillwater. If you are in Tulsa, we will be taking him to the vet if no one picks him up by Saturday, so we can deliver. We will be more than happy to hold on to Cowboy for someones situation to clear up. His bad side is uncommon.
We'll miss you Cowboy
If he is not spoken for by this weekend he will go to a Corgi Rescue club in Tulsa
