FRIGGIN SWEET!! I finally found the perfect pump for my wavemaker!!

In the market of wavemakers, as you all know. You PAY BIG!! Vortech's $350, Tunze w/controller $400. I've been looking for something in the SEIO range (and the reason I like my SEIOs is with a little modification they mount in the back corner and I can AIM them). But the SEIO's aren't really a good choice for ON/OFF wavemakers or controllers. .

Now, in response to the overpriced Vortech, TUNZE is tackling the SEIO market. There are probably 100's like me that want a nice little back and forth type simple wave set-up, and now we have it!!

The Nanostreams come in 3 flavors. The most expensive one is just over $200
(the 6055) and I BELEIVE (since it says 264 to 1,453 GPH) that one can be used on tunze controllers which have advanced features like "pulsing". .

But for us who like to save the most money. .

The 6025 660 GPH

-or-

The 6045 1,189 GPH. HERE IT IS. The perfect replacement in the SEIO 1100 and 1500 range for 4-6' tanks!! Put one on each end of the tank on a simple timer. They mount with magnets just like Vortechs, are nice to look at, and you can AIM them man!

I went searching around RC and according to a spokesman of Tunze, the "cheaper" ones. Are $70 and $90. So for actually LESS than a SEIO 1500 and a $35 magnet mount. You can get a pump that swivels, is OK to use with timers, and has Tunze reliability and performance history. I don't see how this can't be your first choice if you have around a 55-180 tank! I thought I'd just pass the word. Man these are gonna be PERFECT with my reefkeeper 2.

Wow....always on the cutting edge....nice work Tunze....

Here's the exact pricing from them BTW (the prices are the same at all retailers):

6025-$61.84
6045-$96.63
6055-$202.93

I'm not so sure the 6025/6045 can be used on timers. My understanding is that these aren't controllable, and the same rule would apply as with the 6060/6080 -- off at least an hour before back on. But if you had them switching every 90min or so it's probably work fine.

Don't know much about these wavemakers but I have a newbie question. Are these the same as a powerhead, just plug it in and moves like a powersweep powerhead?

No. Eric is wanting to connect these through a wavemaker or timer or some sort of switching device.

These are powerheads, just smaller versions of Tunze's Stream models.

Short of a controllable version, like the 6100s and up, the most reliable powerheads to put on timers or wavemakers are the maxijets, which, when modified according to the "hitchhiker" thread on RC. put out flow comparable to the Streams both in terms of pattern and volume.

However, in that thread someone points out the IMAC talk this year where pulsing wavemakers were strongly discouraged with lots of good reasoning to the argument.

No the smaller ones arent controllable. But neither are the maxijets. According to everything I've read, the Tunze Rep said if you were to run them at 15 min. intervals it should be ok.

15min is pretty good. Roger advises against pulsing the 6060/6080 series any more frequently than hourly. But these are new design presumably.

6060 that's the more "affordable" stream isn't it? Let's leave those out of this discussion. This is about, NANOSTREAMS!!!

I might just have to buy the 6055 and get a tunze controller. Was pulsing generally discouraged on ALL tunzes because it's bad in some people's eyes. Or was this just for certain pumps?

Did you know the Seio's have a controller coming out in the next few weeks? If not, then you may want to consider the Seio's instead.

Yeah I have 1 SEIO so far. But the "controller" has been coming out in a few weeks for a few months now. Plus, it is $200. And I'd rather have the $270 Reefkeeper controller which can put your lights on a timer, keep track of your PH, keep track of your temp, AND run 3 different pumps on a timer as well. Also I've heard it doesn't even alternate the SEIOS the seio controller. It turns them both down at once, and turns them both up at once. Not really a "wavemaker" if you ask me. Or if I was going to spend that much money on a controller I'd rather get these cool new nanostreams and buy a controller for them.

Eric: the reason I brought up the 6060 is I think that the "drive shaft" (impeller) design is the same. If that is the case, then the 1hr delay may be right. You can always post in the Tunze forum and ask Roger.

BTW Eric, if you want a Chauvet timer for $20 let me know. I paid $35. If you aren't familiar with them, you can search here. I used it for 10min. Decided not to swith my maxi-jet streams on and off since I have them on the sea-swirls.

What are my options as far as controller 2 nanostreams 6055? "the controllable one". . What controllers are out there? This pump I assume can accept complex controlling like turning up and down the flow, and pulsing?

Right now my plans are to use a multi-controller, probably the reefkeeper2. But I want to know my options as far as wavemaking.

I've never heard of anyone using anything other than the Tunze single and multi controllers on Tunze pumps.

Could be wrong. But there are lots of people out there with aquarium controllers for everything else who are using Tunze controllers on their streams.

I don't believe there are really options to the Tunze controllers.

Oh, so I'd have to buy a $200 tunze multicontroller? I see. I might start with just one of those controllable nano's and work my way up. That 6055 nanostream would be ok to put on 2 minute intervals on my reefkeeper 2 right? I mean it's a controllable one.

Eric I don't think you want to do that with the 6055. I'm not 100% sure why but someone with a controllable stream can answer with the argument. I think it has to do with how they start and stop, the electrical signal involved. But I'm virtually positive you can't do that without voiding the warranty, and I'm not sure it'd work anyway.

I thought the 6055 was the controllable one. Hence better for more frequent switches? Or are you saying I should rather be using it on a tunze controller?

Right. There's something proprietary about the controller aspect. Not any timer or controller will do. You need to use Tunze's controller to control it.

Really, you ought to post this question in the Tunze forum and Roger will give you a straight answer. Well, then again, maybe he won't? Maybe post in the equipment forum and ask if anyone uses non-tunze controllers on their streams. You'll get your answer there, and explanation too.
