Cool urchins! Personally, I would remove the urchins. They are best left to very large, open tanks.

Yeah, I have one of those. I like it alot, however it does get a bit annoying at times. I have only 1 I think three is would just be a problem. Try getting rid of two, and leaving 1. Might be easier to deal with.

I only have problems with mine attaching macro algae, snails!, and plastic things things himself. Last night my wife suggested I added 'stuff' just for him to carry around. I don't really have any added corals so it isn't such a huge problem for me.

I can understand your frustration. Mine was TINY when it arrived and it is size of golf ball now. I believe these can get quite big.

At one point I took him out of the tank it is in. Within 12 hours I had to put him back... He just didn't seem in the right place in tank 2.

Good Luck :-)

mine has started carrying a tunicate on his back larger than he is
i don't really mind the tunicate
i used to always be pulling snails & hermits off his back

Yeah i know how your feel,

I have a cute, but stupid pink TBS urchin (1.5" diameter) roaming my tank. It likes picking up objects to hide itself.

So far it has required my assistance to remove a couple things it picked up that it shouldn't have:

5" clam shell (way too big and bulky for it)
3" brain coral (brain wasn't too happy)
two Nasarius snails are once ( the snails seemed really confused, they kept flicking their foot, trying to right themselves
1 really dumb porclein crab (the crab was really confused what got it)
1 small blue hermit (the hermit was upside down, about to jump its shell to escape)

I like my urchin ("pokey"), but I'm glad it is just one as it ****es me off at times. So far, it has "chewed" both main branches off my branching hammer (they are doing ok, reconnected with their epoxy "casts"), and grinds any coralline it can get at to dust. However, it also cleans up unwanted algae, and is cool to watch.

I thought I read that they actually are a net good for coralline as they spread bits of it around the tank for future growth.

Just found on the size of a pencil eraser in my 1st shipment. How fast do these guys grow? He seems pretty cool. Want to keep him. Have a 90 gallon.
