Frog Fish Tank

I have a 20 gallon tank that I was going to setup as a nano-reef / frog tank. I know frog fish are tank specific and the only corals I have will be mushrooms/zoas. The setup I am looking at:

1x20 gallon long
1x10(Or maybe another 20L) gallon sump/fuge
1XASM mini G skimmer
1x eShine 60w dimmable LED lights
Couple Koralia for water movement.

Does this setup look okay?

Thanks

Sounds like you may have done a bit of reading? Sounds pretty good. Look up the thread titled "The Frogfish Files" It is super informative and has links to sites that are useful as well.

I would rather spend hours doing research, then blindly buy a fish and kill it. I will check out "The Frogfish Files"

Thanks

I'd be sure to direct water flow to top of tank, behind rocks - out of swimming/crawling areas. Frogfish are weak swimmers. While you need the flow, they need more or less peaceful areas to move around in.

Good luck, they are such cool fish!

For a 20 gallon, you will want to keep smaller species. Wartskin are spectacular but pricey, painted (A pictus) are usally a little less expensive but very nice.

Great information to be found in the frogfish chapter of Reef Fishes, volume 1 by Scott Michael. Great for species ID, husbandry.

Good advice by all...I agree with Lisa, I wouldn't go with anything larger than a warty in a 20L if i could help it.

As for the ASM Mini G...I know a lot of peeps like ASM skimmers, but the Mini G I had on a SH setup was the biggest POS/PITA skimmer I've ever owned, and it now resides in a landfill someplace. Honestly, i liked my old SeaClone better...

ill second that.....lots of good info on eels and a few other families aswell......well worth the money, on my next book order im picking up some more of his books.....

that book is my single most useful reference, maybe because it includes many of my favorite oddball fish. :)

Well my curiosity got the best of me and I just ordered that book and another book by the same author but I can't remember the name of the second book. :o

yeah lion and scorpionfish are covered aswell as other stuff.....my single favorite fish reference book cause i like oddball species aswell....very well written with tons of info....

We have the entire set, and they're all really great, but RF Vol I is the most used for sure. It does contain nice sections on various Scorpaeniformes, altho Frank Marini's book (Lionfishes and Other Scorpionfishes) is more in-depth and up to date.
