frogspawn prolem

also what kind of lighting should i look into for the tank
im gonna have a mixed blend of corals (softies ,lps ,sps)
the absolute budget for just my lighting is 400 dollars max

i dont think i will go mh (too hot ,expensive ,and energy wasting --love the shimmering though)
i was thinking of either a 6 or 8 bulb ho t5 fixture w/ moonlights off of ebay
like the nova extreme unit

Look at www.aquatinics.com they have a very nice T-5 unit that will fit your tank and be worlds better than the nova extreme.

They have a 4ft 5x54 watt unit with individual reflectors for $290. With shipping and bulbs you will be right around $400.

If you are going to use T-5's, I would get 3 GE Daylights ($12), one ATI Blue Plus and one UVLighting Super Actinic. If you want a more blue look switch a GE Daylight for a Blue Plus.

I did a full test on your water and that is definately the problem

Here is what I found:

Salinity - 1.026 (fine)
Alkalinity - 6.8 KH (should be 8 - 10 range I think)
Calcium - 940 ppm!!!!! I checked this twice with a salifert kit.
Should be 400ppm or so. Not sure what affect this has.
Nitrates - 40ppm (should be under 10 I think, higher is
bad for corals/inverts)
PH - 7.6 (should be 8.0 - 8.2)
Ammonia - 1ppm, should be zero. This is really bad for your
fish/corals also.

I am not sure what to make of the crazy calcium reading. Do you dose anything? I think having too many fish is the problem with your Ammonia/Nitrates and what damaged the coral. I will let you know how it is doing.

I have this coral in a 20g long tank that is my q-tank.

There is a 2x65 pc light on it.

What other corals do you have in there? If there isn't anything in there that uses calcium you should cut down on your dosing.

I would not recommend dosing anything that you don't test for as things can get out of hand pretty quickly, especially in such a small tank.

Sure, I will later this evening. The lights will come on shortly and I will take a pic after it has opened up a litte.

I think 2 heads will be saved, 3 if we are very lucky.
