I donated my gigas to the Long Beach Aquarium of the Pacific about two weeks ago. It must have measured at least 18" and was taking up too much valuable real estate in my tank. The gigas got put into their 5000 gallon reef display. It's keeping 4 other rather large Derasa clams company. Here are some pics.
First, when it was in my tank:
Now in it's new home. My gigas is on the left. The gigas looks tiny in the 5000 gallon tank, but at least it has plenty of space to grow into.
I couldn't even get far enough back to take a full tank shot because the area was pretty crowded.
Although the tax write-off was an extra perk, I'm just happy my gigas is living in a new environment where it can thrive. Also, a couple of other tidbits I found out from the husbandry dept; the aquarium uses Catalina water and ozone in most of its salt water systems. They also had a beautiful Clarion angel in their quarantine tank that just got confiscated from a recent shipment. I think he said when they finally received the boxes that were seized, only 12 Clarions were alive and only 2 survived.
