From Disbelief to realization...

Well right now I after about a weeks time and a few dead fish have come to the utter realization that I in fact have a problem need some help. (sorry for the length)

Been in the hobby little over a year and went from a 30 gallon reef to a new 125 gallon, meticulous about WC's and water parameters do my daily/weekly husbandry, Log everything in a reef log and have had nothing but success with the tanks. But I've never QT fish, guess I was lucky/naive with 30 gallon and after a bit was fully stocked and never had to add more fish so never seen a problem but after upgrading to the 125g (72x20x20) i guess the odds caught up...

Over the last 3ish months I've moved the fish from the 30g and slowly been stocking up the new 125g. My last addition was a small yellow tang from a fellow reefer approx. 2 weeks ago
(not sure if it came from the YT or was in there before i guess it doesn't matter)

2 days later I noticed some spots on the yellow tang, Then noticed the small kole tang and naso also having spots and looking sick, Now I must have been in denial figuring it would go away or my fish could fight it off, but on Dec 30th 14ish days after first signs one of my Anthias died, followed by the kole tang the next day and the other 2 anthias today.

Most but not all the remaining fish are showing signs of it, tho the wrasses and the tangs you can hardly see anything.


So thats where I'm at, i would like help with a plan to QT and treat the remaining stock of fish

2.5" naso tang
2" yellow tang
Green mandrin
4 blue/green chromis

I have air pumps, heaters, power heads and my only 30 gallon tho I know I can't put all my fish in on small tank, Do i look for a 55g or something bigger and run one big one or another 30 and do 2 or...

Thats where I'm at and need help to were to go from here
(ive learned my lesson the hard way as I'm sure other have)

Where I live I believe Petco is still doing their $1/gal sale, so you could either buy a 55 gal to treat them all in or another 30 gal. Either option gives you 55-60 gals to work worth, and that should be adequate for your stated bio-load.

All of the fish you listed are good candidates for copper (Cupramine) treatment, except for the mandarin. Although others may disagree with that. What is the mandarin eating? Anything other than pods?
 
Yep, you have a problem :( I think you should get a couple of other QTs, since you have quite a lot of fishes. I'm not quite sure of the problem, although it sounds like ich.
If it is ich, then I would do the tank transfer.
It seems less traumatic to the fish.

The isnt any Petcos around here but im looking around for some used tanks and such.What is better concidering I have a 29g already to get another and have 2 QT or one big one? whats the best

I picked up some cupramine and cupramine test kits

And as for the velvet thats what i was afraid of i have a video of the anthia before it died ill post tomorrow.

The mandrin does eat frozen food as well as pods

Not with a velvet infected tank. Fish behaviorally become reclusive, sensitive to light, and for the most part hide but they will tend to congregate near any source of flow especially if out of the light. Draining the tank to a low level usually works so the fish have only an inch or two of water.
 
Clown died this am, he was looking the worse, the other clown is the next sickest and the others seem to be (at the moment) doing ok eating good and swimming normal

Locked a used 75 gallon and stand down, just making water for it, probably will have to buy some premise salt from the store as I can't make it quick enough

I'm going to reread some stickys now for setting up the qt on short notice, and what I can use to sead it
 
Are you supplementing their food with anything? Selcon, MaxAmino etc...can do wonders in quickly building up their immunity and reversing the effects of the parasite.

I had a wrasse I picked up on the 26th which I noticed had a couple of spots and by the 29th he was covered in Ich and hiding, I began supplementing with MaxAmino (on the 26th).

I broke my usual daily feeding down into 3 to 4 feedings and added a couple of drops of MaxAmino each time to my frozen food letting it soak for an hour or so. By the 7th day, all spots were gone. I'm not suggesting this be your only course of action but it's amazing what nutrition can do when treating disease.

I think that's why the tangs and wrasses all look so good they are all earrings vigrriously both tangs still attacking the nori when I put it in, I did order some selcon for my Boxing Day orders but it isn't in yet

I'm working as fast as I can to get this all going, if I can save any fish at all I think it will be worth it
 
If some of the fish are starting to look better, I'd say you are likely dealing with Ich instead of Velvet. With Velvet there is usually no getting better. They just go downhill fast and die.
 
That's what I was leaning more toward at the start

If I look at the tank now the only fish that's it's super obvious has spots is the clown the tangs and wrasses have very few if no spots on their bodies and maybe a few on their fins

I can't tell for sure from the video, but it almost looks like that clown has Brook.

Do a visual inspection. Does it look more like his skin is peeling, or are you just seeing tiny little white dots?
