As a fairly non-mechanical person, who ends up doing most things the hard way, how easy is it to use? Would it be adaquate for 180 tank?

Are you referring to the media reactor? If so they are very easy to setup. Simply hook a small pump up to bottom outlet with piece of flexible tubing and that is it. This is the largest size made so it will easily handle a 180. The quality is far superior to any other media reactor out there.
