Fsurocks99's 40 Breeder

Hey everyone! I finally decided to make the upgrade from my Biocube 14 to a 40 breeder. I have been working on this project for forever it seems. This is because I built almost everything from scratch. In this tank I plan to focus more on the fish and clams. It will still be an SPS dominate tank, but I plan:D not to keep as many different types. I want to instead keep maybe 5-8 types and grow nice size colonies, that way, I hope it will look more realistic. So, here it is! I hope you like it!

Now, with this tank, I wanted the fish and corals to have as much swimming and growing room as possible.

I also added sand for the first time. And I really like how it turned out!

I will add some more pics later. As of right now, I have added a L/T Anemone and a few tester corals, as well as, some clams from a good friend that had to break his tank down. I may transfer the biocube 14 stuff today or tomorrow. Not sure yet. My main objective today is to get this thing quiet!

That is quite the burly stand. Did you reseal the seams on the breeder?

it states you want to keep only 5-8 types of SPS. Will you be able to refrain in the future form adding more? :lolspin: You know how this hobby gets...

Love the biocube, definitely on roids with the lighting...

Looking good, Jack!

Thanks Kasey! I just got back from FS and Home Depot. Had to get some epoxy and ask Leroy if the shipment today would have any chalk basses. Sadly, it wont.:sad2: So, I'm going to move everything over including the fish. I bought 10ft of SCH 40 1 1/2in pvc to rebuild the standpipe. Hopefully, this time I can get it right! I'll have some pics of the clams up by tonight. The crocea you gave me has already claimed its spot, so I don't have to worry about it movin.

Thanks TheDean! No, I didn't reseal the breeder. I think the picture makes it look like that. Like I said, I 'plan' on keeping 5-8, just like I planned on only keepin 1 clam in the biocube. And what happened, I had 3.:lmao:

Update: The transfer of everything is complete. Took a lot longer than I thought it would, but its done. Right now, there are frags all over the sand, this way I can slowly get the corals used to the intensity of the T5s. I'm trying to tweak my camera to take pics. The T5s put out so much blue, that I can't get a clear picture.

And here's a few more...
LT Anemone, not sure which type. If anyone knows, let me know.

I did have have a few hiccups after the transfer. I lost a crocea and a deresa clam. A blue leg hermit got stuck in the crocea and of course the :uzi:blue leg is fine, but the crocea never recovered. I'm not sure what happened to the deresa. It was a baby (1''), so I knew I was takin a chance.

I will have more pics up later this weekend, I hope. I added a redhead or blue sided fairy wrasse two days ago, so he's getting used to the tank. And tonight I will be adding a pistol shrimp.

Jack,

I just bought that like. I have my 40 up for over a year now but my light was trashing out on me. How do you like the ATI light and how is the sps responding to the light.

I really like the Ati fixture. Much better than most of the other t5 fixtures I found. The only problem I had with it was having to hang it, but that turned out to be a good thing because it gives you flexibility. Most of the sps seem to be doing great. I could give you a better opinion in a few more weeks.

you tank does look amazing, my downfall in my tank is I have over 65 pounds of live rock in the main, so I need more room for sps

Thanks anthony27! That's how I felt with my biocube 14. There was too much liverock. So with this tank, I wanted it to be as open as possible.

It seems that everyone that has been in this hobby for a period of time says they wish they would have put less live rock in the tank. Really like the look of the tank, good job!

Nice setup. Like your rockwork. Is that the Ati Sunpower? Going to get myself a 6*24watts sunpower for my next custom tank.

i love my ATI sp i gotta 40 br too.i was hesitant about the hanging part too but it actually very beneficial. it gives me much more controll on my height.if you are into DIY you can mesure up how you would like your hanger to look and go to home depot w/ your mesurements for some lead pipe and they will cut and thread them for you just grab some elbows and your good to go. easy to drill too for your cable. after i spraypainted it black looks great.
