Fsurocks99's 40 Breeder

It seems that everyone that has been in this hobby for a period of time says they wish they would have put less live rock in the tank. Really like the look of the tank, good job!

We sure do, but I'm glad I finally got to do it!

Nice setup. Like your rockwork. Is that the Ati Sunpower? Going to get myself a 6*24watts sunpower for my next custom tank.

Thanks sahin! Yes, it is an ATI sunpower.

looking good

Thanks sps aquaria!

i love my ATI sp i gotta 40 br too.i was hesitant about the hanging part too but it actually very beneficial. it gives me much more controll on my height.if you are into DIY you can mesure up how you would like your hanger to look and go to home depot w/ your mesurements for some lead pipe and they will cut and thread them for you just grab some elbows and your good to go. easy to drill too for your cable. after i spraypainted it black looks great.

Sounds like a good idea keith. I hung the light fixture from sliding closet door tracks. This way I can slide them side-to-side for easy viewing and cleaning.

So, I forgot to mention my equipment list:

Display Tank: 40 breeder
Lighting: 6x39w ATI Sunpower
Flow: Vortech MP20
Return Pump: Mag 9.5 Utility pump
Sump: 20 gallon long
Skimmer: Reef Dynamics INS 100
Heaters: 300w Hydor Theo & 150w Jager

Filtration:
About 32lbs of live rock
20lbs of Black Carib Sea Live Sand
TLF Phosban Reactor with Chemi-pure Elite

Did you make your own overflow? I was going to grab some black acrlyic break out the torch and just bend my own.. Let me know what you did since im building the same tank next month it would help.

ohh yea, why such a big pump with the mag 9? Just curious as im planning a mag 5 but an mp40 vs the mp20.

The tank looks awesome and i love the live stock!!!

Thanks reefsurfing! I took a sheet of black acrylic and cut it into 3 pieces with a table saw. I also cut the teeth at the ends with the table saw. Then, I used weld-on #3 to put the pieces together. I went with the mag 9.5 because I wanted a lot of flow in this tank. I added a ball valve on the return line, so I could lesson the flow if needed. I actually am not happy with the flow. I wish I had gone with the mag 12. This is because I split the return with the loc-line, so that I have two outputs versus one. I hope this helps, but if you any clarity, let me know.

Here's the current fish that are in the tank(I have one of each):
Tank Raised True Percula
Starry Blenny
Chalk Bass
Yellow Coris Wrasse
Redhead Fairy Wrasse

In the future, I want to add:
Candy pistol/Yasha Goby Pair
Social Wrasse or Carpenter's Wrasse
Another Tank Raised True Percula(hopefully one that will host the nem)
Of course, like anything in this hobby, the list will change through time.

Here are a few pics of my sump:

I'll be adding some more pics either later this afternoon or in the evening. I'm going to be doing some work in the tank. Looks like all, but a few some the corals took to the tank nicely, so I will be fixing them to the liverock.

Okay, so I know how I said I'd have some pics up, but I'm having a lot of trouble with the blueness of the lights. I'm trying to tweak the settings on my camera, but haven't found anything yet.

Jack,

amazing as usual thank you or the good information that you provided me. I have started to un load some rock in the sump and are re doing the tank.

I am going to use your rock work as a example. Awsom tank Jack.

Thanks anthony27! Feel free to keep asking questions. And good luck with your tank. I look forward to seeing how that turns out.

We need for you to spend more time figuring out your camera settings so that we can get more pics! :p

Hope schools going well, Jack!

School is going okay. Not going to be an easy semester.

Here's an update:
I finally finished the doors. I used velcro to attach them to the stand.

These are not the best pics, I know. All of the sps, except for the rose milli and birdsnest, are not epoxyed yet. This way, I can see how different arrangments look. I'll keep you all updated.

Also, as I was taking pics, I noticed hydroids on the big rock in the middle. Anyone have any suggestions or tips on how to get rid of them? I've used epoxy before, but this is a bigger size colony of them.

Lookin' good, Jack!

As far as the hydroids go, aptasia X and the like don't seem to touch them for long. Epoxy, even if it's large, might be your best option.

Thanks kasey! I ended up expoying them. Going to make sure I got all of them throughout the week. I also did my first water change on it. I was surprised of how much junk was already in the sand.
