So thought I'd give an update. Despite my instincts, I left the Philippines and returned to States about a month ago. Diving at Apo Island was insane! Really aren't words to describe...it was just amazing.
This past week, I moved in with friends closer to campus. Everything but my reef tank is in the new place. I'm torn with how I'm going to move the tank. I've thought about just going fish only or to just take a break from the hobby, but can't do it!!
It's about a 30-45 min drive to my new place, depending on traffic, so transport won't be too bad. Currently, my plan is to sell the corals (keeping a few frags for myself), which will make transport much less stressful for me. I'll also keep the fish and anemone. Downside to the new place is there isn't central air, so the upstairs gets stupid hot. This limits me to one area in the living/dinning room and because of space, I'll have to place the tank against the wall instead of my preferred peninsula style.
But, I look forward to the change. I'm planning to aquascape the rock similar to a coral head (combination of the pics below), like I saw everywhere in Apo. This means a single structure with ~3-6 SPS (ideally Acropora hyacinthus, A. gemmifera, A. samoensis, Pocillopora sp., Seriatopora caliendrum, and S. hystrix) and the long tentacle anemone.
The move should take place within the next two weeks. Because the house is about 100 years old, I'll hang the lights from the wall and not the ceiling, like tmantaylor18 (Taylor's Tech 120 build) did for his tank.
Initially, the tank will be setup with only the essentials (return, skimmer, vortechs, heaters, lights, ATO). This will give the nem time to find its spot and me to set up the Apex and the more complicated things. I'm also planning to build a cabinet to house the ATO reservoir and all the other plugs and outlets to reduce the clutter around the tank. Once things settle down, I'll hopefully get the corals that I don't already have from the list above! In a nutshell, that's it! Sorry for the long post, but I think this helped me more than anything with planning the move...
