If you use 3/8" or larger for where the fuge sand is pressing against the acrylic, I don't think that it would bow all that much.

it wont bow that much, only bout 1/16 if that, but its the fact that silicone doesnt make a bond to plastic because it isn't silica based and there for wont stay in any long term situation. this is the reason that when using acrylic they use cement, cyanoacrylate which actually bonds the pieces at a molecular level because acrylic is methacrylate or they melt the pieces together to bond them that way with a caustic chemical. , just some food for thought.
