I have been looking at these cameras Fujifilm FinePix E900 Zoom, Canon PowerShot A620 and Sony DSC-W100. I want a all purpose camera that also has the ability to capture good macro shots on its own or with adapters. The more I look the more confused I get. Anyone have any opinions on any of these?

I have great luck with Canon and will probably only ever buy a Canon. They take great pictures and there battery life is execelent, typically 3-400 pictures on a battery. I donh't know enough about the others to give an opinion on them but I would definatly recomend the canon.

check dpreview.com for full reviews of these cameras - or others that may have the same features you're looking for.

I especially like their in-depth reviews showing the resolution differences between cameras - they assign real numbers to the cameras, making it a pretty cut-and-dry decision - they may even have side-by-side comparisons

Indeed they do- go to buying guide>>side by side and select the models you want to compare. Makes it very easy to compare the specs. It doesn't tell you everything but it helps narrow down your choices. Once you narrow down your choices the best thing to do is go to a camera store and play with each model.

That sums up my feelings too. I've not owned a Fuji camera but they are known for rich colors and many people love them. Sony has put out some very very popular cameras and many people swear by them. I had a nightmare customer service issue with Sony and let's just say I won't be buying any of their products in the future :p

No experience with the Fuji but the sony software is super slow in comparison to the Canon. Besides that, Canon comes with the Digic II image processor and Canon has it's Zeiss lenses. I'd go with the Canon any day.

I am going back and forth between the canon and the Fuji. the Canon looks like it can focus closer in macro mode but the Fuji can captor in raw mode.

My canon S70 (no longer produced) captures in RAW mode also.

The RAW capability was a huge factor in buying a camera for tank photos - the ability to adjust White balance after the pictures have been taken is very helpful.

I really like my Fuji S602Z, as it allows me to macro something within 1 centimeter of the lens. Like this little guy from yesterday.

The drawback of my camera: It doesn't like to focus in low-light situations. This can drive you crazy. It doesn't shoot in RAW mode either. However, if I have to get another camera, I may just buy another one of these because I'm very comfortable with it and now that it is 3 years old, the price is much more reasonable.

One more thing - I prefer to shoot images looking at the LCD instead of peeking through the viewfinder. So when shopping for a camera, consider how you'll be using it specifically, so you can decide what you are willing to put up with. I remember years ago, everyone seemed to recommend the Canon G-3, but when I tried it out, the lens extended out and blocked part of the view through the viewfinder. That was rediculous, and why I opted against that camera.

I've shot with the Finepix S9000, great macro, nice color renditioning, fairly low noise. It's real easy to shoot once you get the hang of the slight delay ... sorry I'm a DSLR shooter.
